The Wisconsin "Season Ticket Holder Event" was attended by people in red almost all of whom most certainly were over 40 (if not 50). They listened to the coach not answer questions, looked at the rest of the coaching staff sitting politely to the side, ate pretty bad food, and waited in the stands until the video clips stopped and three players came out to answer a few questions. The next-day follow-up from the Athletic Department said: "It’s an amazing experience being able to talk to our most dedicated fans one on one." There actually wasn't much "one-on-one" with the coaching staff, and none with the players, BUT...the players thanked the faithful by assuring them that large crowds help them win...and that they miss them not only when they have to face Nebraska and Penn State crowds, but also when they play away at a school with only 100 fans. It's really just a pre-season cheerleading event to make sure season ticket holders feel special, I guess. It's free to attendees, and it doesn't really cost the Athletic Department much at all either. I thought the food was tasty. And I got to chat with several coaches during the mingling portion of the event. Most of the folks who attend these don't follow VT, or listen to the podcasts, or follow the program on social media. Many may not even read all the articles in the paper. So when Sheff answers the same old questions, they might be hearing it for the first time. If there weren't positive feedback over the preview event, they wouldn't keep holding it.

I bet bigfan also really hates picture day where the team films all those snippets and things played on the media board during starting lineup introductions and timeouts and such. Hell, Bigfan probably hates that they sell tickets to the games, and make them available to the public.

Players don't like or need meet and greets. People who think they are somebody need them to reaffirm their slipping grips on reality.

Don't need to debate my opinions vs. yours, but I think you'd be surprised, then, about the Badger faithful following the team on social media and electronically in general...even if they are older. A woman, probably 20 years older than me (70s), told her husband during the program, "There's the director of volleyball operations!" He said, "How do YOU know?!" She said, "I've seen her...she's right here on the website!" (holding her phone out). That was als o my observation in Minneapolis during Final 4 with many "old," presumably "rural" Nebraska fans who some may expect to be less-connected electronically. They ARE connected, and it keeps them as fire-breathing fans. Which is, of course, why the athletic departments put so much into all the hype in the first place.

This is how BYU does meet and greets. The athletic department threw a carnival for the fans/community on the soccer field. Women’s Volleyball had a dunk tank going. Coach Olmstead, Heather Gneiting, and McKenna Ah Sue were dunked in the clip they posted.

I know this comes as no surprise, I don’t know how to copy/paste those. 😐

Another cool thing they do, new season ticket holder who live in Utah County get their tickets delivered in person. By members of the team and/or coaches.

I'm sorry, but doesn't that sound a little, well, weird? "I sponsor the locker of this college athlete." And then the player is essentially forced to take a picture with the sponsors? Next to the locker, I'm guessing? Yes, the player gets voluntold to have her picture taken with her locker sponsor(s). Not at the locker, though. As for weird... is it any weirder than signing autographs for fans? Autographs are fundamentally bizarre things. I used to chase them when I was a kid at a baseball game. But, I have none left and have no idea what I would do if anyone signed one for me. Posing for pictures can be OK, but I don't know what I would do with that either

There's nothing I hate more than driving around a county to deliver stuff. And bigfan was saying how players don't like meet-n-greets, well, ticket delivery has to be far worse.

A meet and greet for the entire athletic dept at the same time is great. A meet and greet just for a volleyball team is alarming. Players and coach's hate them. BYU does things differently. If USC did a ticket delivery in south central things could and would go badly.

I have this image in my head of delivering something to someone and then when they open the door, you smell a foul odor and when you peek inside, you realize you just stumbled upon a crime scene. Holy smokes!
