CSU sneaks by with a 15-10 win in the 5th set. Seems these 2 teams are the best in the Mountain West...especially since Wyoming didn't have their starting setter in this match.

Wyoming looked solid, Rams had to work for it. Runnels with 29 kills.

Mariana Hayden defeats Utah State 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-14)
Hayden with 33.5 points on 22 kills, 11 aces, 1 block.
[EDIT]: With this she serving performance, she goes from ranked 150+ in the nation in aces per set to top ten lol

Wyoming gets a sweep over Fresno State to stay in second. Boise takes on UNLV right now ( Video) Big matches next week as the top three will collide with CSU and Wyoming traveling to Boise State (and Utah State).

MW Standings (as of 10/27)Place | Team | Conference Record | Overall Record | 1 | Colorado State | 10-0 | 20-1 | 2 | Wyoming | 9-1 | 14-7 | 3 | UNLV | 8-2 | 12-9 | 4 | Boise State | 6-4 | 14-7 | 5 | Fresno State | 5-5 | 12-10 | 6 | Air Force | 5-5 | 8-14 | 7 | Nevada | 4-6 | 14-8 | 8 | San Diego State | 3-7 | 10-11 | 9 | San Jose State | 2-8 | 7-14 | 10 | Utah State | 2-8 | 2-20 | 11 | New Mexico | 1-9 | 6-16 |
CSU, Wyoming, and UNLV have all been taking care of business in conference at about the halfway mark. UNLV only plays CSU and Wyoming once this season, so they have an opportunity to win if either CSU or Wyoming slip up. Speaking of CSU and Wyoming, they collide in the second edition of this seasons Boarder War on Tuesday in Fort Collins. I think this match can essentially decide the MW champ this season. CSU won the first match in Laramie in 5 sets, so if Wyoming want to guarantee any chance of winning the MW on a tiebreaker, they have to beat CSU in at least four set. CSU and Wyoming still have a tough road trip to Fresno State and San Diego State. UNLV has a favorable schedule, with their toughest road matches at Boise State and Air Force. The (somewhat) pleasant surprise of the MW this season has been Nevada and Air Force. After finishing 11th and 9th, respectively, both teams are looking to place higher that last year. Nevada did have a hot start to the MW, starting 4-1, but have lost five consecutive matches, and are sitting 4-6.

(My) MW Mid-Season Awards
POY: This is a tough one for me. Oleksak is the two-time MW POY, the 2019 Pre-season POY, and really the engine that makes CSU go, but Hillyer is having such a fantastic year. In conference play, she's averaging 3.21 kps, hitting 0.495, and 1.33 bps. Both are deserving, I wonder if they would do Co-Players of the Year?
Jackie McBride, KC McMahon, or Madi Fields from Wyoming could make a case if they win the conference, as well as Mariena Hayden from UNLV.
FOY: I would go wither either Allison Casillas (libero from Boise State), or Shelby Capllonch (six-rotation outside from UNLV). Casillas is sixth in the MW in digs, averaging 3.49 per set. Capllonch is a double-double machine with 13 on the season, averaging 2.58 kps and 3.37 dps in conference.
NCOY: Desiree Sukhov from Fresno State. Transfer from CSU Bakersfield, averaging 3.70 kps and 4.43 pps.
COY: Chad Callahan from Wyoming. He has Wyoming playing consistently this year, as they have usually dropped a head-scratching match here and there in the past. This year they have really dominated their MW opponents (apart from CSU).
Can also make a case for Lee Nelson from Nevada. Have nearly doubled their total amount of wins from last season.

Wonder what it would have been if they had won some of those 5 setters in preconference.

Tuesday's Border War is certainly the 'Don't Miss' match of the 2019 MW season. If Wyoming wins, then it opens a crazy race to the championship finish line. If CSU wins, they are in the driver's seat, but still have that aforementioned challenging CA road swing and a Boise St. squad to deal with. Hardly smooth sailing.
I see the argument that UNLV has a favorable schedule down the stretch, but in one of those odd scheduling quirks, they only got to see CSU and WYO once this season and lost both matchups. Not having that second crack at them to even up the head to head may be enough to dispel any championship notions for the Rebels.
Anyways, Tuesday should be very exciting.

MW Standings (as of 11/03)Rank | Team | Conference Record | Overall Record | 1 | Colorado State | 12-0 | 22-1 | 2 | Wyoming | 10-2 | 15-8 | 3 | UNLV | 9-3 | 13-10 | 4 | Boise State | 7-5 | 15-8 | 5 | Nevada | 6-6 | 16-8 | 6 | San Diego State | 5-7 | 12-11 | 7 | Fresno State | 5-7 | 12-12 | 8 | Air Force | 5-7 | 8-16 | 9 | San Jose State | 3-9 | 8-15 | 10 | New Mexico | 2-10 | 7-17 | 11 | Utah State | 2-10 | 2-22 |
Big news of last week was CSU won against Wyoming 3-1 in the battle of the top two teams, and they did it without one of their star middles, Paulina Hougaard-Jensen. Match was close, as the first three sets were all deuce, and if this was in Laramie, then I think the Cowgirls would have come away with the victory. Wyoming is a very good team, I think their non-conference could have gone better (same could be said for the majority of the MW), but they should get the AQ for the NIVC, and do well there. UNLV and Boise lost to San Diego State and Nevada respectively. I think UNLV losing at home is more surprising, as they have been playing well as of late. As a Ram fan, this victory by SDSU makes me a bit worried about the match in San Diego next week - SDSU is the ultimately Jekyll and Hyde team because they have the athleticism, but they don't have the consistency. Boise has been playing without Janell Walley (in the front row, she's been a DS) lately, so there has been some adjustments on their side, but Nevada is a good team when they are in-system. Highlights of next week's schedule include CSU/Wyoming taking on Fresno/San Diego State - Fresno has been playing without MW point leader Desiree Sukhov, but Fresno and SDSU play well at home. UNLV and Boise State also clash in Boise. This will be an important match if Boise wants to try and get into third place.

MW in the Postseason
NCAA: Colorado State is a lock for the tournament, most likely as an AQ, but their RPI will be good enough to get in as an At-Large should anything cataclysmic happen with three weeks of conference play left. CSU will most likely not get a seed, as they're around 20 in RPI. Unless Oklahoma, Florida State, Cal Poly, Colorado, and Denver win out in their respective conferences, and some teams ahead of them take losses, I think the Rams will be on the road for the tournament.
NIVC: Now, I'll be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what the cutoff in RPI for this tournament is. Wyoming should get the AQ for this tournament as the highest conference member not in the NCAA. A big of guessing on the at-large bids, but is looks like Boise State should safely be in. UNLV I have no clue, as their non-conference was horrible, but they're third in the conference, so their RPI is a bit sketchy.

MW Standings (as of 11/10)Rank | Team | Conference Record | Overall Record | 1 | Colorado State | 14-0 | 24-1 | 2 | Wyoming | 12-2 | 17-8 | 3 | UNLV | 11-3 | 15-10 | 4 | Boise State | 8-6 | 16-9 | 5 | Nevada | 7-7 | 17-9 | 6 | San Diego State | 5-9 | 12-13 | 7 | Fresno State | 5-9 | 12-14 | 8 | San Jose State | 5-9 | 10-15 | 9 | Air Force | 5-9 | 8-18 | 10 | New Mexico | 3-11 | 8-18 | 11 | Utah State | 2-12 | 2-24 |
CSU, Wyoming, and UNLV continue to stay 1-2-3 atop the standings, and I do not really see that changing with two weeks left in the schedule. CSU and Wyoming both got victories against Fresno State and SDSU - both very good teams at home. CSU and Wyoming still have fourth place Boise State, but CSU/Wyoming are at home, then at fifth place Nevada the week after. UNLV got a major victory by winning at Boise in five to keep them in third place. Rebels are fortunate with the scheduling quirk in that they only have to play both Wyoming and CSU once this year. The four team log-jam at sixth through ninth should sort out this week as Fresno State, San Diego State, and Air Force all collide. San Diego State is this week's hard luck team (and a team that makes me want to pull my hair out), as they went 0-6 in sets against the top two teams, but they scored at least 21 points in every set. This is a good team athletically that could be so good, but for some reason are never as consistent.

Fun fact - Katie Oleksak is the first player in MW history to win the Mountain West Player of the Year three consecutive years in a row. Congrats to her!
