Agreed. Terrible plan for a first date too. After freshmen year of high school, I don't think I ever "formally" asked a girl out on a date. I always made friends with them first in a casual and nonthreatening setting and if I wanted to do something with them, I'd just say, "We should hang out some time." Often, they're just confused what that means so they just gave me a funny look and just responded with "umm...okay..." And then, we'd hang out. This is the best method of all!

A variation of my method is to ask, "Let's hang out." The key is to use the phrase "hang out" somewhere in your dialogue with the opposite (or same!) sex. It sort of disarms them and they'll see you in a favorable light.
This was my junior prom invitation: "We should hang out at the prom together." They get so confused because they don't know what you're asking. LOL!
Everyone should ask me for Dating and Relationship advice. Unless it's a hard question, then you're on your own.
