CMH and Kimberly will definitely be contenders, as will Germantown and Middleton, but Waukesha West? Spellman is a great hitter and Boland can set him well but do they have enough of a core around them to contend? I believe they have a decent libero/OH in JJ Webber (I think that’s his name?) who I know played Sting or MVC but beyond them I don’t know who would make them in the top 4 or 5. I tend not to disagree, but if Horlick is a top team (per Coach Eric), the Boland-Spellman combination is a bigger force than the Barrientez-Tempesta combo, so they should be in the conversation. West does have a slew of other kids who played club for MVC/Sting as well (I think at least one, maybe two middles). Who else would you slot in the top five, besides Kettle Moraine? I'd say Waukesha West has a leg up over them as well, again based on the Malak-Morton combination you mentioned. I don’t know that I’d put KM top 5, but I would think they’ll be top 10. If I had to make a top 5, I would most likely go... 1. Kimberly 2. Gtown 3. CMH 4. Middleton 5. .... Truthfully I can’t really say who I think the 5th team is. Maybe IT? Maybe West? Kaukauna and A-North are usually solid, Marquette will always be a contender. As previously mentioned I think KM is in the mix. It’ll be interesting to see how things look after the KM tournament. If I read the pools correct West isn’t there, which is kind of a shame. It’d be good to see how they stack up against the other top teams early on.

Regarding Waukesha West, please know that their Libero, Webb (sp?) is said to have an offer from Lewis as a bro. With solid passing and solid setting and a terminator like Spellman, all they need around those three is a team that does not commit errors, and they will go far. Add a freshman who played Bro for them in summer league and you may have one of the best passing teams in boys volleyball. And if West is not committing serving errors, they will win most if not all the serve / receive battles. Don't know if they crack the top 5, but I like them in the top 10 for sure. Looking forward to them hitting the court. Didn’t know that Webber had a Lewis offer. Also didn’t know they had another younger passer. Ball control will get you far when you have a setter/hitter combo like they do, as you said. I think their conference record will be a good indicator of how they stack up, as The Classic 8 is usually pretty competitive. Take last year when you had CMH, Muskego, Mukwonago, KM, and West. All good teams who were consistently in or just out of the top 10. Obviously Mukwonago has to deal with losing Merrit and Carroll, and CMH and Muskego were senior heavy, but I would envision CMH still being a top level team, and Muskego and Mukwonago still being competitive.

Both teams will benefit on Sat for having played this match. Working out the kinks 14-14. Net calls. Missed serves. Hitting errors. But it is fun to see some really nice plays too. Like 12 side outs in a row. 18-18

MUHS puts 4 points together, Kimberly watches a ball drop in the middle of the floor, MUHS gets a block on a scramble set and Kimberly hits wide then long Serve in net ends the run. 22-19

Kimberly plays a ball goin long but get the kill, MUHS hits into the net and on match point they play a serve going clearly long. Krause at the service line serving 75% until the lasts 2 serves. Had two digs during the 6 point run.

Add tosa east players to the crowd and now players from other teams double the student section. MUHS started strong but made a few mistakes and kimberly serving well. K is up 6-5. Spencer Herman lefty serve very effective. 9-5. Kimberly featuring Herman even in back row. Krause has had few swings but a couple got a big crowd reaction. Stegeman for MUHS not playing. Sullivan experimenting with the line up but the K block is too big. 17-11 K. MUHS finally serving well but too little too late Herman kill to end the night 25-19
