So a general question for the folks who live up in Chicago. Oak Street beach has been slowly eroding in size the past few years, and apparently Lake Michigan is up even higher this year that it has been recently. There are pics of the various beaches up there (Oak Street included) which show the water totally covering most of the sand and cresting up as far as the concrete walkways, and the pic of Oak Street shows the water right up to the next-door restaurant. I called the AVP Offices just in case, and they of course know about the issues. The very nice young lady who I chatted with stated that they have a few contingency plans ready just in case, and I am guessing one of them includes holding the entire event at North Avenue Beach, which would be awesome because of the restaurant, store, rental and restroom facilities they have. In fact, we used to love the North Avenue Beach venue when they held it there way back when.
Here's my question (finally). Is there room at North Avenue for the entire tournament setup this year? Looks like the water is pooling up on the main beach itself even at that location (which is traditionally much, much deeper than Oak Street). What's the story? And does anyone have any idea where it might be held if North Avenue is unavailable? Our hotel is right near Oak Street so it will kinda suck if its at North Avenue, but at least we can still walk that distance. It would really suck if they go somewhere totally different, however - thanks if anyone has any inside knowledge or info about the current conditions of Oak Street and/or North Avenue Beach!

I talked with the AVP last weekend, I think they said there was room for 2 or 3 courts or something insane...

Really? Already over 100 men's teams signed up - how do you know this, Rainmaker? Smaller main draw then as well? Seems like if they are still going to have three courts squeezed in at Oak Street (like Jim said above), they could have all kinds of courts at North Avenue and beyond - do you have some inside info? Thanks!

The Q will be limited to 32 teams. I imagine they will still have the tourney at Oak Street but majority of the Q will be played up at North Ave. I could not even imagine the security and under staffed disaster holding that tourney for 3 days at North Ave would be on Labor Day Weekend. Sure it might deter some casual beach goers from going to North Ave that weekend, but overall I see it being a nightmare surrounding the venue.

rough for all the mediocre bubble teams looking for gold series points. I think a list on another thread showed all the way down through team 70 has 500+ points

Thanks Rainmaker - that does blow for soooooo many teams outside of the top 32 - you'd think with the tons of nets set up to the north of North Avenue Beach that they could use a few of those!!!

Permits, Leagues, Rentals, etc. cause lots of headaches. I would assume leagues run from about 3pm or 5pm until finished on Thursdays.

You would just think that since this has been a problem all summer, perhaps a little more advanced planning could have taken place.

If Bradford Beach wasn't so damn rocky this year, I'd say they should move the whole thing up to Milwaukee (of course not, it'd be a logistical nightmare)

The Bradford Beach AVP was one of our favorite tournaments...love the Milwaukee waterfront and all of the cool restaurants and things to do there...
