Dave and Dylan crushed Eric in the qualifier in Hermosa. Everyone in that “old school volleyball” forum on Facebook also claimed that miles Evans was the US’ 2nd best defender after he did well in 1 tournament. Recency bias is a real thing, seen often on these social media boards First off, Dave & Dylan did not "crush" Eric and Marty, it was a close match so let's start with facts newbie.

Did you watch the game? A lot different than the 21-15 23-21 scoreboard might give away. Eric yelled the f bomb and got red carded in the first set. Not something that usually happens in a close match I'd think you'd be able to determine 23-21 isn't "crushing" anyone in beach volleyball, welcome to you though with your deeply insightful posts.

A little shocked at the hate on Kolinske. For ones, Billy played really solid. The thought of either one of those 2 players carrying the other to a 3rd place finish is a little ridiculous. They both played well after the first match in what I saw.
Also, Billy has 3 other 3rd place finishes on the AVP. Hes a good player and hes been there. Hes not an elite American player by any means, but let's not forget that him amd Evan's have beat a good amount of almost all the USA teams more than once. I dont have their stats, but outside of the top 2 or 3 American teams they were right there in the mix.

Billy is steady but highly unspectacular, he won't beat himself, how many times must I post this basic scouting report that should be understood by this point.

Let me know when you start creating posts in the tens, I'm sure you'll still be half star by then.

Brb making a new thread to talk about Billy Kolinske’s green shirt to up my cred on an online forum 🤡 That post is still more poignant than one team "crushing" another 23-21. Now take a seat and let the adults discuss real issues like players wearing the same t-shirt three days in a row.

Recency bias is a real thing, seen often on these social media boards I love the Old School forum more than anything on the internet, but the fans there have the same issue many fans here do. They watch Evans or Beranek or Crabb, take a huge approach, a giant jump and hit one straight down. Then they watch Ryan awkwardly shamble to the net, jump an inch and a half, and gently pat the ball down. They watch that and think the little, jumpy guys did something awesome and Ryan was lousy, without recognizing that both achieved the same thing.

My mistake. Now I get it - Billy is the only reason they took 3rd in Manhattan. Except most of us who were there, and watched all of their matches, realize that Beranek carried Billy, not vice versa. It's just so funny that you absolutely hammered Beranek over and over without knowing anything about him, and now your only explanation is that there's two players on a team. You stated many times that the kid was not even anywhere near Rosie - not even on the same planet, as you ridiculed those of us who thought that Beranek had a decent upside. Yep, I remember Eric coaching up Billy after every point all weekend Burik Brady Placek Drost Frishman Marchewska Mariano Montgomery Lorenz Lee Thats off the top of my head, players who have finished 3rd at least once. He had one finish. One finish does not make a player good. Lets see him post another result or two before we make him the next Karch The funniest part to me is it people on here actually seem to think that Guest2, who simply makes up stuff nonstop, is knowledgeable. For the third time, we never said Baranek was the next Karch. We simply said that he had more upside at this point in his career than Rosie has at age 39, and you absolutely called us idiots. Now you throw out, as proof that he is not a good young player, 9 dudes who also have taken a 3rd place. Beranek just took a 3rd at the Grandaddy of them all, Manhattan Beach, a few weeks after turning 23. Then you list 9 players who you state also took a 3rd in your weak attempt to support your position but, upon checking, whom are nowhere near useful for comparison purposes to Beranek: Lee - 3rd at age 37 Burik - 3rd at age 31 Marchewka - 3rds at age 26 and 33 Brady - never took a 3rd Montgomery - never anything better than 7th Mariano - 3rds at age 30 and 31 Drost - 3rd are age 28 Placek - 3rd at age 25 (at San Diego) Lorenz - 3rds at age 24 and 25 All now older players, none of whom can thus be compared to a 23 year old kid just starting his career. The only thing you are correct about is that Billy coached up Eric on every point at Manhattan Beach, and it was awesome to see in person because Eric soaked it up like a sponge and obviously learned from it. It was awesome to watch, and exactly what a 33 year old player would ideally do with a 23 year old newbie. And your point about that would be?

They did totally different things. The jumpy guys took their limited natural physical stature, worked incredibly hard to turn it into something special, and actually cared about doing so. Ryan simply stood there, put forth the absolute minimum effort, and squandered the amazing natural gift he was given, and that the jumpy guys would die to have, by settling for mediocrity, by not even trying to make himself better, and by making sure that every fan watching knows that he barely cares. ,

Comparing feelings and intrinsic merit as humans is different but a 7 foot human elbow who sides out 70% of the time is exactly as good at siding out as a four foot tall 12 year old with a 95 inch vertical who sides out at 70%

I personally found watching Kareem Abdul Jabbar as boring a FK, and enjoyed the hell out of Magic Johnson.
