I gotta say, I love how spread out the talent is on this team. I truly felt there were times in this game that every single player on the court was the hero. Iosia diving into the press table, Riley nailing the pass probably 4/5 times she was targeted, Amber and Skyâs blocking not to mention the double digit kills from BVS, Hellvig, and Jolie. I think this is a team that is just going to grow and grow, getting stronger every week of play. Thatâs when we are going to see the real jaw dropping games, when things get polished.
That being said, I say they try the 6-2 out tomorrow with Choy and Hellvig starting in first, and Sibley/Iosia coming in. See if Kyra Can hold onto that momentum from tonightâs match and put her in the libero jersey. Or keep he same set up and replace Wagoner with Ross who is probably better offensively. As great as I thought Wagoner did, I didnât really see anything that made me think she should start game to game, wasnât really a factor offensively and I think we can set Tiff the slide more and keep these combo plays going, especially with BVS coming in on the 2, I donât think there was ever a well formed block when she swung on those and Westerberg looks like the best defensive middle as far as her decision making on the net. Thatâs probably another reason why Akana could be useful, some plays Amber/Skyler made were a little cringe but they are both still probably the most physical blockers in the gym.
Does St. Johnâs/Washington run any of their sets as fast as USD did tonight? I think that was probably our top 3 issues but Jolie stepped up and did a better job stopping the slides

I hope I donât seem like a total noob.... but how many time outs do teams get in the 5th set?
I thought it was 2. But USD took 3 in that 5th set.
Sincerely,
Confused

When UH got to 8 points, the teams swapped sides and then there was a sudden timeout. While in the arena, I had assumed USD had called a timeout at 8-5.
USD also called a timeout at 11-7 UH. Iosia serving.
Last timeout comes at 13-8 UH.
Help me.

San Diego is a veteran team with high hopes this season. They are troublesome to defend and have a couple of really great hitters. This is a new Hawaii team playing with 3 freshmen on the court at the same time. Theyâre still figuring things out. This is a huge win for the Bows. Theyâre only going to get better.
BVS= Tita of the match.

This is weird because lots of Wahine matches are televised like this one, and Iâve been a season ticket holder for 6 years I think.... I donât remember an automatic timeout at the changeover in the 5th set.

I think that was probably our top 3 issues but Jolie stepped up and did a better job stopping the slides I disagree with you on the Ross for Wagonwer switch, unless youâre implying that Hanawahine plays back row for Ross. Yes, Ross is probably better offensively, but she hasnât proven to be that great of a back row player yet and this team needs good passing to reach its full potential imho. Rasmussen, BVS and Hellvig can carry the offensive load on the pins. I agree that the team needs to involve the middle more, which can only happen if the passing is there (which it wasnât in Sets 2 and 3). Plus from what I remember Wagoner made some good plays offensively and wasnât terrible. Iâll take her ball control over Ross playing 6 rotations. I like what I saw today. The lapses in sets 2 and 3 could probably be due to the team not having that much experience with that lineup in an actual match. Give them enough time to gel and figure out their roles (who takes tips, second balls etc.) and this lineup could be very very dangerous. Go Bows!

Anyone have a YouTube link? The Big West stream wonât let you fast forward. Iâve had to restart a couple of times from the beginning after walking away while letting it run in the background. Doh!
