Let's see how Stanford handles the student section in Rec Hall which is right on top of the court. They did not handle BUY's well last year.
Penn State also sets the middle a lot in front of the setter, particularly Hord. Stanford's serving game will need to be on to force PSU high and outside where I like their chances at slowing down Gorrell / Cathey.
This should be a good one.

I don't think anyone can really know anything about Penn State and their status as a team they are young fresh and have not played a single match that is even noteworthy. Although a few of their matches have been thrashings. I am going to go with Stanford here because at the end of the day even if Stanford rode Plummer all year long they could probably win most matches behind her alone. I hope more people being to able to contribute.

Penn State and Stanford: By the Numbers
226 NCAA tournament match wins between the two programs* (Stanford: 125, Penn State: 101) 173 times one of these programs has been ranked #1** (Penn State: 95, Stanford: 78) 18 times the teams have both been ranked in the Top 5 when meeting (including this year) 15 national titles between the two programs 14 times the teams have met on neutral ground 8 times a team swept (4 each) 6 times the teams have met as No. 1 and No. 2 6 meetings in Palo Alto 4 meetings in State College (including this year) 2 streaks broken in the series*** 2 times in their entire series history that a team was not in the Top 10 when they played each other (2004, #12 Stanford; 2016, #13 Penn State)
Notes: * Stanford’s total includes a consolation match win over Pacific in 1983 for 3rd place. ** Only Nebraska (99 times) has more. ***In the season-opening match of 1997, Penn State broke Stanford’s 50-match home win streak at Maples; in their 2010 meeting, Stanford broke Penn State’s 109-match win streak (a streak that started the match after Penn State’s regular-season loss to Stanford in 2007).

I THINK I updated my list correctly from last year...note that Penn State holds the 12-11 series edge, not Stanford. ... It was a typo 11-12 is the record for Stanford vs PSU. 11 wins for Stanford and 12 wins for PSU. Stanford lists it's record first. I should have reversed it, my fault. But in my defense I've made 31 threads in 9 days. I usually cross reference against the other team's record book, but Penn State does not provide one online. Also alot of record books disagree on series records.

I wasn't intending in any way to criticize...figured it was a data/formatting thing (have to enjoy the series advantage over Stanford as long as possible, right?!). Appreciate all your hard work!

Am I the only one who think this current set of pin hitters for Penn State (Cathey/Gorrell/Parker) could be one of the least impressive (trying to be nice and not use the word “worst”) in their history?
I mean don’t get me wrong - in the years that I have been following Rose’s team, they have always been impressive in the pin. The graduation of Nia Reed/Taylor Leath and the inability to attract top OHs the past few years certainly contributed to this.
They have a dynamic duo though in the middle..
