A fan of one team, creating a thread of adoration for the main competition, is a wee nyaff. Even if, especially if, sincere.

I guarantee you it won’t. I don’t know how many active Gauchos fans are there but maybe this thread can help them get off their couch. At one time we had a load of Santa barbara posters here..............silversurfer, thesantabarbarian and sonofbarcelonabob. Barbarian passed away from cancer a few years ago. He was a diehard women's vb fan and would frequently post updates on the team on the main Gaucho sports board. No one has really stepped in to fill his void.

Thanks Raian for this thread. Agreed, the Gauchos are having a special season and deserve the love. But you're a Hawaii fan, this isn't the message board version of having a tourist steal one of Pele's rocks is it? ;-) I root for the Big West in general and I hope that the conference can send 3 teams to post-season this year. SB received votes in this week’s poll. Also Ruddins is my favorite non-Wahine player in the conference.

Lol, strange to be posting on another team's thread started by another Hawaii fan. Like the Wahine, the Gauchos have recruited well this past year with freshman starters Deni Wilson MB, Tallulah Froley RS, and Romoni Vivao S and the rise of junior MB Rowan Ennis. Like the Wahine, the Lady Gauchos also play great D and block a lot of shots. The two underclassmen setters have similar assist stats, are they running a 6-2? Wahine better pack their A game on the next road trip. Hopefully, we'll be packing Jolie on the flight over as well ;-)

UCSB absolutely crushed it this weekend, two convincing sweeps over Davis and UCR with three sets holding the opponent to single digit scores.
With Hawaii losing at home to Irvine, the Gauchos are the new team to beat in the BW

UCSB is playing solid VB right now and on the cusp of landing in the top 25 rankings. And they're healthy for a change. So where is everybody? All I see is one or two UCSB fans and a busload of Hawaii fans posting on this thread.

That Ucsb sweep of Ucla is looking better and better. The bruins have an official RPI of 15 this week.

The Toreros are 10-0 since their loss to the Gauchos, including a defeat of then #20 USC. I am very much looking forward to the Hawaii game but am disappointed that the Wahine are dealing with injuries. Would be nice to see how the teams compete vs each other when equally at full strength.

Gaucho update: Now tied for first in the BW, holding the tiebreaker over Cal Poly due to the head-to-head victory over the Mustangs on Saturday. The 3-1 victory was especially impressive given they did it without star player Lindsey Ruddins who sat out due to some undisclosed injury. Freshman Tallulah Froley had a her best game as a Gaucho registering 16 kills and was named BW Offense POW. Libero Zoe Fleck had an incredible game and helped inspire the underdog Gauchos to victory.
Currently, RPI futures has UCSB @ #29 or projecting to about an 8 seed if the tournament field selection follows RPI closely this year. Tomorrow they travel to 4th place Davis which is coming off a tough 5 game loss on the islands. On October 4th, UCSB easily swept the Aggies in Santa Barbara; -9,-15, -17
I haven't heard anything on Ruddins so not sure when she'll be back.

After watching how UCD played vs. the 'Bows in the SSC, I'm looking forward to watching them at home vs. the Gauchos to see how that confidence and enthusiasm carries over. I hope Ruddins is well and back in the lineup as I am looking forward to watching another White/Matias vs. Ruddins/Froley matchup. Should be a good one.

Gaucho update: Solid weekend for UCSB last week in handing UC Davis their first home loss of the year in a sweep then breaking out the broom again @ hapless Riverside. Lindsey Ruddins was amazing, hitting over .500 both games and earning a conference record 12th BW POW award. Froley earned her 3rd FOW award. Was a good week off the court too as UCLA, who the Gauchos swept earlier in the season, swept then #2 Stanford and #15 Cal over the weekend. UCSB's RPI is #29 with an overall record of 18-2.
Tonight is a rivalry game as they host 4th place Long Beach which has won 2 straight. Gauchos seem to be firing on all cylinders now and should sweep but LB is a more talented team than their record, can they put it together and give SB a battle?
