Quade is one of the top outside hitters, has phenomenal footwork, great control and vision. I don't think she'll have a tough time transitioning to the beach. This is a huge pick up

This is a huge pick up Well, here's the thing. You might say the same about Mac May, UCLA's best Outside who played on the #4 Beach team for the 2018 season. When the 2019 season came, Monkhouse beat her out early in the season, and May didn't play again. I don't think many realize how different the two sports are that share the name volleyball. Quade will have to be a good beach setter, or her smaller defender partner who will need a very good set due to lack of verticality will have trouble siding out. Then there is the transition game which is really awkward for Indoor to beach converts. I'm just wondering if Mac May couldn't crack the starting lineup, and likely won't this year either given the incoming NLI bigs, how will Quade. I hope they BOTH find a way into the lineup. It would mean that May has continued to improve, and that Quade is one hellava versatile athlete.

Quade is a way better attacker/blocker than May is by far. How that translates to the beach, I don't know. I can't say much about setting either. She has a nice float but its inconsistent.

I’m baffled as to why this has its own thread and not in the UCLA 2020 thread.

May started out with Simo at #4 in the 2019 season. Stein eventually replaced her with Monkhouse. May ended up playing #6 the rest of the sesaon with Muret who was replaced by Lindsey Sparks at #5.

^ thanks for the clarification, I had forgotten the details... just knew she was replaced and didn't play in the top 5 pairs. Fixed it.

I’m baffled as to why this has its own thread and not in the UCLA 2020 thread. You must mean the invisible UCLA 2020 thread?

I’m baffled as to why this has its own thread and not in the UCLA 2020 thread. You must mean the invisible UCLA 2020 thread? There was a 2018 UCLA thread that got 4 replies mostly about how there are Bruin fans but never a season thread. 🤗 I’ve joked about it before but I’ll repeat... UCLA, proven to be where All-Americans sit on the bench for years. Oh, and looking forward to dunninla’s SC pairs analysis/predictions. ✌️
