I hesitate to post anything, but I also feel like I should. Mike's health, I hear, has taken a turn for the worse. Prayers, positive energy, etc. certainly could not hurt.
No one in the volleyball community has been more important in my life. I hope I have made that clear to him over the years.
Thinking of you, Mike (and family).

One of my favorite Mike Hebert quotes (I think it's by him), and I paraphrase: "It's not my job to make my players happy, it's their job to make me happy."

I hope that Minnesota fans past and present recognize how instrumental Mike Hebert was in making the Gophers relevant nationally. He was the one that really got things going in Minneapolis, recruiting players like Lindsey Berg and Nicole Branagh, and when the time came to step aside, helping to bring in Hugh McCutcheon. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Outstanding coach and better person.

They were good and had the potential to "level jump" in terms of national performance and status. He made that a reality - in a big way.

Sorry to hear. A legend, not just to Gopher and Illini fans. Prayers for Mike and his family.

Mike has had as big an impact on club and HS ball in the state of Minnesota. It existed before Mike, of course, but it really took off after he arrived and a lot of that had to do with how much he was involved and how much he was willing to share.

The man was my mentor. Or I should say, I wish he was my mentor.

I first knew about Mike Hebert while watching Hawaii play Illinois in the 1987 National Semifinal. I remember thinking that he was not just a great coach, but how much class he had. Will keep him in my thoughts as well.

I completely missed the Mike Hebert era at Illinois. I graduated the semester before he came to Chambana.
In the mean time I tried to follow the Illini's successes from afar, and I became a Mike Hebert fan as I read his three books as I was trying to learn about volleyball and coaching.
It wasn't until relatively recently that I got to meet him though his network of proteges.
This is so very hard to process.
