"Hebert's five-year contract at Minnesota includes a base salary of $86,300 and a yearly media income of $10,000. He will also get two transitional payments of $9,500 each."
The Power 5 television money and the athletics arms race sure have pushed up base salaries - for the most part.

Roughly $162K adjusted for inflation...(Including the $10,000 media income)

It's too late to second, so I'll twenty-second the sentiments already expressed. Great coach; great person. He certainly has my best wishes.

My heart skips a beat every time this thread has an update because it seems like someone will announce, sadly, that Hebert has passed away.

I was at ILLINOIS during Coach Hebert's time. Kenney gym was a horrible place to watch volleyball (students on the upper floor) but it was a great time when the team was winning. Thanks Coach for the memories & good times!

Thanks to all that have shared their personal experiences and sideline perceptions of Coach Hebert. What a wholesome thread! My grandpa lived with Parkinson's for nearly 15 years, so I'm feeling feeling very moved right now. I remember him describing it once as feeling like a prisoner in his own body. I truly hope Coach Hebert and his family are finding some comfort and joy right now, in whatever ways that that is meaningful to them. I had two small yet impactful encounters with Coach Hebert that left me admiring him and the Gopher volleyball program more and more. In 2009, I was boarding a plane to return to Minneapolis from Tampa after the NCAA Championships. I started geeking out when I saw Mike Hebert sitting in an aisle seat ahead, reading a book. I ended up having to pause next to him and before I could bite my tongue (afraid to intrude like a proper Minnesotan ), I congratulated him on a great season. He wasn't even close to being visibly annoyed, thanked me, and even asked me what I thought about the final. He felt so kind and genuine in that moment and I felt very cool the rest of the flight! The other time was maybe a year before that when I was at a skills camp that was hosted in the Pav. I was one of two boys there that weekend and the registration form did not specify that they were asking for a girl's t-shirt size. I didn't care that much, but they felt bad, so a camp coach disappeared behind the scenes somewhere to figure out an alternative and then a while later in walks none other than Mike Hebert delivering two very nice shirts with MINNESOTA embroidered across the front. He handed them to me and the other guy and said, "Go Gophers." Some of the embroidery is coming undone, but I still wear it for sleeping. Thanks again Coach!

I guess girls t-shirts don't come in XXXL sizes? Also, come to think of it, many girls t-shirts come with tapered waists so I guess if a guy wore it, it would look very feminine. Plus, the glitter.
(My wife and daughter are petite-to-small so I wouldn't know.)

Wow, in addition to being incredibly accomplished, Mike was a well-traveled man. I didn't realize he also coached at Pitt. Some interesting background on his Wikipedia page. The best to all who know him or were/are touched by his amazing work. Salute to a life well-lived.

I forget the details, but another huge event in Mike's life was the fact his father was MIA in Korea. I *think* his plane was shot down? It's in Mike's biography.

From the time Mike started recruiting our daughter, our friendship began. His health was just starting to decline and we never once heard him complain. He found ways to work around situations and he surrounded himself with good people. Heck he attracted good people. He brought me into volunteering for the program via the booster club before our daughter arrived and his legacy will live on in each and every fan, player & coach he touched at the PAV and beyond. His patience for Booster Board meetings is legendary.
After retirement we visited he and Sherry several times in San Diego. They came back and visited their Minnesota friends and we were so happy to host them. He was always so appreciative and humble and continued to keep up on all things Gopher and Illini. He also was extremely giving of his time when other coaches sought him out for his expertise.
He will leave a huge hole in the Volleyball community and beyond. I know his family feels so supported with all the love and support both on Facebook, this thread and beyond.

Mike did so much to grow volleyball in MN. In 3 different years, he allowed me to bring my team to the Pav to watch a practice, tour the locker room, take a a photo of our team with the Gophers, and have a couple of them talk to out players. Our girls were over the moon with the experience.
