Animes can indeed have great score. I love composer Joe Hisaishi's works in his collaboration with Miyazaki. Also, someone just sent me a clip of Jackie Chan on the film set of the Lang Pang movie. So Chan will also star in the film?! In what role I wonder. Or maybe it was simply a set visit? I think it said somewhere that he was co-directing the film. Jaque Carvalho, Paula Pequeno, and Mari Steinbrecher were part of the film as well while others filled the remaining Brazi NT roles. https://www.instagram.com/p/B3VkKCugTTd Not only the Brazilians, but US players will also be in the film. I can confirm Heather Bown will appear as a character in the movie. She will be played by UCLA alumni Sara Sage, who won the 2011 championship. So Lang Ping's coaching stint for the US will also be featured: linkThat raises interesting possibilities, if Bown will be a character, how about Logan Tom? Glass? Sykora? Berg? Scott-Arruda?

She was really great as “Hatsumomo” (though the controversy of Marshall casting Chinese actresses as “geisha” hurt it’s chances during the awards run). The dynamic between her and Ziyi was amazing. Looking at her filmography I feel like I haven’t watched enough of her movies, I saw her Volvi cup winning role though. And I saw on wiki that the movie is titled “Chinese Women Volleyball”? I hope that’s not the final working title. They got an official English title now, "Leap": Leap Dir. Peter Ho-sun ChanGong Li plays Chinese volleyball legend Lang Ping in this $18m drama about China’s women’s national volleyball team, which is currently in production and scheduled for release on January 25. After helping China win five championships in the 1980s as a player, Lang coached the US women’s national volleyball team, before returning to China to lead her home team to victory. The film is produced by Chan, Jojo Yuet-chun Hui and Zhang Yibai.link
They also released a full trailer, which seems to introduce the teammates of Lang Ping during her playing days. Most interesting is the person playing the young Lang Ping. She looks...strangely familiar, where have I seen her before? Well, it turns out she is Lydia Bai, the real-life daughter of Lang Ping and Stanford alumni. So we got two confirmed former NCAA players in the movie now: On November 14th, Beijing time, Chen Kexin’s film "Chinese Women's Volleyball" released a new notice, with Lang Ping's "memory reappearance" as a clue. Through her memories of the old women's queuing friends and competitions, she completed the collective appearance of the old women's volleyball team. .
On November 16, 1981, the third women's volleyball World Cup, the Chinese women's volleyball team 3-2 defeated Japan, won the world championship with the proud victory of seven battles, this is also the first world champion of China's three major goals.
In the notice, Sun Jinfang, Lang Ping, Zhang Rongfang, Liang Yan, Zhou Xiaolan, Chen Zhaoyu, Zhou Lumin, Yang Xi, Zhu Ling, Chen Yaqiong, Cao Huiying, Zhang Jieyun and other 1981 women's volleyball World Cup champions appeared one by one.
These old women's volleyball players are selected by volleyball players, and all of them are starred. Among them, the young Lang Ping is the daughter of Lang Ping's own daughter, Bai Lang.
In the "old women's volleyball" notice released not long ago, it recorded the glory of the Chinese women's volleyball team's first world championship in 1981. "Iron Taro" Lang Ping, "Soul of the Field" Sun Jinfang, "Strange Player" Zhang Rongfang, "Tiananmen City Wall" Zhou Xiaolan, One-Armed General" Chen Zhaoyu, "Steel General" Chen Yaqiong, "Iron Girl" Cao Huiying and other people at that time Reproduce.
The "Chinese Women's Volleyball Team" was directed by Chen Kexin, and Gong Li played the role of Lang Ping. The film will be released on the first day of 2020.linkSo what do you think of Lydia playing her mom?

That’s awesome! Kinda a full circle for Lang Ping. And bonus, they don’t have to hire athlete doubles And “Leap” is much better than “Chinese Women’s Volleyball”, but the final title card on the trailer still says it. This is shaping up to be a major cameo/star powered film. Who is the second NCAA athlete?

Huge scope of a story then, I really hope this turns out at least decent.

As for the title, this one is for the Chinese market, so they retained the original title, but internationally, it will be called Leap.

My command of Chinese is limited to to the first lines like "40 years ago, we started from here blah blah blah". What does the rest of this "blah blah blah" mean?

Huge scope of a story then, I really hope this turns out at least decent. They have another trailer from the movie. It features this...guy, not sure who he is exactly. But he looks too young to be the coach and Lang Ping seems to beat up on him at the start of the trailer. I heard he might be a young Chen Zhonghe, the coach who led China to gold at Athens 2004. As for the trailer...I don't know, is it supposed to be funny at the start and then it becomes kinda...not sure what tone it is trying to go at. My rudimentary command of Chinese does not allow me to understand most of it...lost in translation for me. It does raise interesting questons though, what is his background tale? Another interesting thing, we do get to see more of Lang Ping played by Lydia. I've seen Lydia play for Stanford during her time there, but I had no idea she could act too. What do you think of her acting?

It looks like 3 different movies all in the same trailer, the opening sequence is the most trivial because it looks and sounds overtly comical in tone. Personally, I would hope they go for a more “serious, dramatic” route. Inserting the movie with comedic elements is fine, but the way they handled it in the trailer is not it. As for Lydia’s acting, it’s quite hard to judge based on a few minutes and shots but, as what the trailer showed, she’s playing it pretty casual and humorous. I’m really interested to see how she handles the more dramatic scenes.

I’m really interested to see how she handles the more dramatic scenes. Yup. But as they say, never judge a book by its cover, just like one should never judge a movie by it's trailer. After watching the trailer and again and based on my very limited grasp of Chinese, it seems I have a better idea (or maybe more like an educated guess). The guy was a bench player for...Fujian I think. He wasn't very good but Lang Ping tells him he can't be a player forever, he should consider coaching. Then the guy says to Lang Ping that he will be her assistant coach if she beats him. Then we get a montage and the guy obviously accomplish something for Lang and the team to cheer him. The final shot is something like we meet again as coaches. I have no idea whether that is accurate or how the film plays out, but whether it works depend on execution. I have a hunch though the movie will be serious and dramatic overall, but it is saying with this trailer it has lighter funnier moments in between. That could work, again depending on the script and director.

Yes, of course. I’m still very interested on how this movie turns out, eventhough the trailer was baffling. Lol
I’m guessing Lang Ping will have a say on how this movie is handled (it is her story after all) so hopefully they will stay faithful and as close to her real-life experiences as possible.

Being baffled is the right response. It could be a mess of a movie, very average or actually pretty decent. Only time will tell. But because of its subject-matter, I can't help but follow it. I don't know enough to have any expectations, just the subject appeals to me. Anything with volleyball, haha.

Good thing is because of the trailer my expectation is already quite low so if it turns out halfway-decent I’ll be very happy. lol

Just watched the new trailer. I thought you guys were blowing up the comedic elements, but... that music...
I'll try translating. With my crap Chinese it may take a while.

"Just because of me (did I miss something like an adjective?) (Learn from you -- what the teams say when shaking hands under the net before a scrimmage) I can only serve for the Fujian team But this is better than playing ball." // something didn't translate well here ("Catch the ball for me!" -serves into his face) "Do you know..." -Chen Kexin- -Director's work- "The distance from the bottom of the Chinese flag to the ground is three meters and thirty-two (cm?). That's (FLO!) Hyman's touch. One day I will exceed her." "If you beat me today, I'll give you [training for my whole] life." "We can't play for a lifetime. You haven't enjoyed being a head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team?" //again, something must be missing "You must pay attention to Yumi Maruyama's hook ball. We must seize their routine and use their routine to hit them. No one can smile and win the world championship." "Comrade! Are you an athlete? I also play volleyball!" "1-2-3!" "Actually from then on you should know that we will meet sooner or later, Director (Coach) Chen. You can't escape."
