St. X just got handled by Lourdes and St. X is goood. Probably the best St. X team of all time and just got smoked. Not thinking that Lourdes is #4 Looking forward to their match against Mo Bap later this week. The top four teams look to be pretty interchangeable. I’m curious to see how Menlo finishes out the season and if they are in the same class.

I think Menlo has a real shot at being in contention for a national championship for the next few years. They have a great duo of international outsides and a middle with a lot of potential. Their libero is good enough and their freshman setter is good enough to get his hitters the ball on any pass. I haven’t seen them play in person but I watched a little bit of the stream of their game against UC Merced and they looked good. Granted UC Merced isn’t amazing, but Menlo is the real deal IMO.

I have seen them play in person and I would concur with this assessment. Ibrahimovic, in particular, makes them superior to most teams. I feel he could be starting at OH for some D1 teams. They are still a little young and there are some emotionally volatile personalities on the team. I worry perhaps they might not react well if and when they really get pushed. I hope not. As a west-coaster, I think they are the best chance for the national championship to stay in the region this year. I can't wait to see how they stack up against BenU-Mesa, for instance, to confirm that belief.

Ottawa tomorrow, BenU-Mesa and Vanguard later in the month. I think they are better than all three of those, but like you mentioned, the emotion sometimes can hurt them as much as it helps them. Either way, I don’t see them losing a match the rest of the regular season. I am curious how this Ben-U Vanguard match goes tonight. That may show us who actually could give Menlo a run.

Doing a search on the NAIA website shows 50 teams will field men's volleyball teams for the 2020 season, up from 43 teams in 2019. Of the 50 teams, 10 are new to NAIA men's volleyball. Three schools seem to have dropped men's volleyball. The three that dropped are: - Lindenwood University-Belleville (IL)
- Brewton-Parker College (GA)
- Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN)
Add Cincinnati Christian to the list of teams no longer competing in men's volleyball in the NAIA. It appears the university is no longer accredited. So there are actually 49 teams in the NAIA this year.

Just caught a look at the Grand View score vs Jamestown. It looks like Riley Salmon has a competitive squad in their first season, which isn't surprising. Looking at their roster, that Southern California connection is strong, with some nice finds from other states. Is Tanner Woods going to play this season? He is listed as an OH, not a setter? Either way, the kid played at a really high level and can ball. That would be a huge addition this season for them.

I am surprised that they are not more competitive. They got swept by Grandview, regardless of score, a sweep is always a sweep. I don’t see Jamestown being anything special this season In regards to Menlo, they have some talented pins. But every team in the top 4 have pins as good if not better and some of the teams have more than just 1 or two. So though Menlo has a couple good pieces, I don’t see them competing at the level they will need to compete to win a title, at least not this year.

A sweep is a sweep, kinda like Pierce swept LBCC in the semis, but I guess the score of that match was more indicative of a sweep.
