The Italian SuperLega Cup starts on Wednesday. While I wish this was more of an open domestic cup instead of just a mid-season playoff preview, it is still fun. 1. Lube Civitanova 8. Vero Volley Monza *Maybe Kurek can go on a tear and make it interesting. 4. Itas Trentino 5. Allianz Milan *This could be a fun match. They both have 11-4 records and 33 points. Can Nimir carry them to the semifinals? 2. Sir Safety Perugia 7. Kione Padova *I think Perugia will handle this one well. 3. Leo Shoes Modena 6. Consar Ravenna *Ravenna has had a rough go in 2020. I can't see it changing here. It would be nice to see Evans put up big numbers. TY! I forgot to look for this. Looking forward to these fun matches.

I'm very worried for Trentino. They aren't playing all that great.
For Modena to lose, Ravenna have to consistenly stop Anderson and block Zaytsev during key moments. It's not impossible to me.

I'm very worried for Trentino. They aren't playing all that great. I agree. I could be wrong but it seems a few things are at play. #1 Kovacevic is 70% or less of the player he was in Oct and now came back hurt from the Olympic Qualifier. Gianelli has not set consistently well throughout matches. Maybe he's lost without Kovacevic but certainly hasn't been delivering good balls nor choices. As it stand Cebulj is working his way into the starting lineup and I think its freaking people out what to do with their most expensive foreigner. Its just a theory. Hopefully Im totally wrong and they can push Modena, Lube and Perugia for the title.

I think Russell is healthy and rested a bit. For Trentino to be successful they must ride he and Vettori.
Lisinac is still solid in the middle, Candellaro is not a slouch.
Having to rely on Cebulj is not necessarily a bad thing.
Trentino has shown faith in Gianelli, demanding one million Euros to get him before his contract ends (I think in 2022?).
The playoffs are a different beast... heck Modena almost reached the finals ahead of Perugia last year. As far as the cup is concerned... here is where I think Milan can do some damage. Nimir is working on his own and Clevenot is filling a role effectively at the moment. On paper they should not beat Trentino, but they have been punching above their weight. They just have to catch lightning in a bottle three times to hoist the trophy, and do not have to worry about a series.

Can someone explain this Italian SuperLega Cup and what is that that they play one match a week against the other Italian teams?

In Italy they do not have a true open cup the way they do in Russia, France, Poland, Germany, Finland, etc. that as teams from multiple divisions. The Italian SuperLega Cup is essentially a mid-season playoffs. The top 8 teams after the first half of the season play each other. They are seeded 1-8 in a single elimination tournament. The quarterfinals are today. The semfinals and finals will be on February 22-23.

Vero Volley Monza *Maybe Kurek can go on a tear and make it interesting. Kurek was beyond awful today and was pulled after 2. Literally a negative stat day. Monza has to be utterly disappointed in their investment here.

Kurek hit -.266... that is insane. He got pulled during the second on Sunday against Perugia as well (though he hit .389 in that outing).
Modena in 3, Anderson hit .500 and passed pretty well.
Lube went 4. Rychlicki is a glaring weakness. If I were coaching (because I am obviously qualified and know the ins and outs of the team very well), I would consider Leal at opposite and starting Kovar on the outside.
