Was thinking the same exact thing. Build out in the image you think a program should resemble. Actually...2 options...1) no where to go but up, or 2) go nowhere and stay at or near bottom of league. It all depends on what school is doing with program in terms on $$. Will it be funded as a DI program? Or are they transitioning to DI with DII scholarships and money? While the NEC may not be a frightening conference, Merrimack will still need to be funded to compete. Heard they’re only offering 30k for the position with possibility to MAYBE raise it to 40. They want someone with D1 experience to come in but I don’t know that they’re gonna find it at that rate.

Or a sad commentary on a gender double standard. Comparing what Briles and Petrino did to what Stokes did is beyond unbelievable. Her transgressions are miniscule as compared to what those two turd buckets did. Not that minuscule, according to what I have heard. Stories that go beyond what have been made public; this coming from multiple sources. Worst part is that apparently admin knew these things were going on for years, and didn't do anything about it.

Possibly time to start another thread on this topic. BUT, I'll chime in anyway. Not defending anyone, Briles is a story unto himself. But Petrino got caught; his sins are pretty common place unfortunately. Not everyone gets caught, so he looks bad. See Tiger Woods...you think he's the only golfer living that life?

My guess is that they're going to pay as little as they can for the next 2-3 years until they become a full member of the conference. Even then, I'm not sure they will put much in considering they know the rest of their sports are good and they can just put more money into those ones already competing in the conference.

Well, in Petrino's case, it wasn't just that he was having an affair. It's also that he hired his (undisclosed) lover to work for the football program, and he initially lied about the incident, saying that he was alone at the time of the motorcycle crash. And Arkansas isn't the only place that he's had problems. When he abruptly left his job as the coach of the Atlanta Falcons, he left notes in his players' lockers to inform them that he was leaving. And Louisville fans don't have a lot of good to say about him either, as he apparently alienated all the local high school football coaches who started steering their players elsewhere, etc.

Break rules...sure... just don't lose cause they will deny any knowledge of wrong doing.

Briles helped cover up multiple sexual assaults. AT LEAST 17 women were sexually assaulted by 19 football players, and that number may be very low. What Petrino did was nothing compared to that.

Continuing to compare inappropriate behavior towards young athletes is actually disrespectful to the athletes themselves. Could be 1 player (or coach) affected by these type of actions or 17, this culture of winning at any cause must stop in every sport.
