that OH for Winthrop has some power! Yes, #16. Nikkia Benitez She hits hard and has a VERY quick swing. It took the Huskies quite a while to speed up their block enough to start to slow her down. IMO, this (plus the Husky service errors) was the main reason why Winthrop almost took the first set.

Yeah, I yelled "Nice Assist!" when I saw that.

The Husky players were just going nuts there at the end, when Houghton made a couple of really nice digs, one of which led to a Bogomolova kill. Everybody was so pumped to see those players getting rewarded for all the work I'm sure they have put in all year long in practice.

So, if USC manages to knock off Baylor tomorrow. And if UW doesn't let South Carolina take the match in Seattle.
Then, hmmm....where will the regional be next week?!?!?!?!?!?!

I was just glad Cook got Bajema out of the match, after a couple plays where huskies were knocking each other down and falling over each other. We can't be havin' no Bajema on the DL stuff.

That would be a pretty sucky way to end her time here.

Yes I loved seeing Houghton out there do her thing and for Grote and Bogo to get some kills The time that tomclen was talking about with the players colliding (in the second set) appeared to be a D set for Maria to attack, but she had fallen down and the set just went to no one. So it was nice that she later got some more chances to make some attacks.

Oh, and there was one dig by Cailin that was fantastic. The Huskies made an overpass or a block or something and the ball was just perfectly accidently set to a Winthrop hitter (I think #16), who smashed a beautiful tight angle cross-court shot ... that Cailin dug perfectly. I said to myself, "There is no way that ball gets dug in the Big South conference. That's got to be disheartening for Winthrop." But that ball wouldn't get dug very often in the PAC-12 either.

I think he just wanted to give the bench some Tournament time. Other than Crenshaw, they might not see the floor again from here on out. We didn't get much from Hoffman (3k, .062), Drechsel (7k, .091), or Sanders (3k, .161). Avie had a nice night (7k, .500). Thankfully, Bajema was all-world (9 kills/set!). Hoffman hasn't really done much since she came back from injury.

Hoffman hasn't really done much since she came back from injury. She's done OK. Not quite as hot as she was. And her serving has been good enough that she took over for that from Crenshaw. Crensaw had some nice serves tonight, though!

Of course, it would also mean USC was here too. We know they won't be scared to play the Huskies in Seattle, if that happens.

That first match Fri night was incredibly entertaining (and tense) to watch. Was there early and saw the entire match. Somehow was surrounded by South Carolina fans. I was rooting for them, mostly because I didn't want to see UW play CSU Saturday night. But as the match wore on, and especially when it ended, I was thinking I may have been wrong in my rooting. Shields (seen below getting crushed) has an incredible serve and is a solid attacker. I think UW will win, but they can not afford to take South Carolina lightly. The other Mikayla, Robinson, outhit everyone on both teams. Even when they fell behind, South Carolina never seemed even slightly rattled. They were behind 13-8 in the 5th! UW is going to have to bring their A-serve game. And their block has to show up. UW only had 6 blocks Friday night, the same as Winthrop. I thought what turned the tide for Washington Friday was the service runs by Powell and Crenshaw.

Something that it will be interesting to see how they handle it are the quality overspin serves of 2 or 3 of the Gamecocks. Not that they are harder to pass than the jump floats, they aren't, but that Huskies have not seen many (any?) of those this year.
