We can analyze Mick's comments and interpret them at our discretion. But, for those reading the board prior to the release of the bracket, posters on this board wanted their teams in the Pittsburgh quarter of the bracket or the Baylor quarter of the bracket. I'm recalling that fans of Nebraska and Washington and Minnesota were hoping to avoid being placed in Stanford's or Texas' region. There's always a first time, so Baylor very well could make the Final Four this year as the top national seed. Maybe they'll handle a lot of the "firsts" like Illinois did last year (even though the Illini have more program history). But, I said this earlier in the season, it's tough to expect a team who was Top 32 the prior season to make it to the Final Four the following season; it's just such a big jump. I didn't watch Purdue's matches; don't know how well they played. Watched most of Baylor versus USC. Baylor was down 17-12 in the first set, yet came back to win; you can view that as them being vulnerable in getting down by 5 points, or being resilient in coming back for the first set victory. If Mick thinks Purdue has a great opportunity, it's probably based on what he watched this weekend. I don't think many teams were begging to be in the "Pittsburgh quarter of the bracket", also affectionately known as the "Stanford quarter of the bracket". Re-read what I stated. This was also before the release of the Top 4 national seeds, and when most assumed Pittsburgh would be one them.

^ but that's not what Mick said. And Pablo, per numerous discussions, doesn't take into account recency or changes in personnel. If you watched Baylor's Sat. game, which I am guessing Mick did not b/c he could not have made that statement had he done so, Baylor is an improved team with the breakout of Van der Mark at OPP. Hit. over .700 two days in a row, the second time against a pretty good USC block. Since when does USC have a good anything outside of hitting ability of Lanier and Botkin?

Haley calling out Hugh about "tightening up" in the tournament. Mick had several stretches in his post-season history where his sphincter closed tightly. You mean like being up two sets in the 2009 national championship match to Penn State? Oh wait, that was another coach...

You mean like being up two sets in the 2009 national championship match to Penn State? Oh wait, that was another coach... That was us in Jerritt's first national title game at Texas. And, he also lost an 0-2 lead in 2008 to Stanford in his first national semi-final appearance at Texas.
Guess what, though? He got there as he built up a Texas program that Jim Moore drove into the ground.
Haley could NEVER get USC back to his high point except for a single national semi-final appearance in 2011. Sounds like you enjoyed the last 10+ years with him at the helm, tightening up more and more, and getting so tight at Florida that another blown lead was his fitting "Swann" song.

While it may seem hypocritical, the fact that some of micks mon teams underperformed in the tournament doesn’t negate the fact of another team underperforming. I don’t agree with him about Mn not being a good tournament team. But let’s say they clearly were not. His own teams being poor tournament teams wouldn’t make the statement incorrect.

It's a curious thing about sports, how people who go to games or follow a team on TV or the web somehow develop this sense of superiority over fans of other teams. Even though, in reality, neither fan has one single, solitary thing to do in any way, shape or fashion with the success or failure of any team.
