why are you guys arguing about a guy's religious beliefs on VT? Because he is the head coach of a major women's volleyball program who looks to be using his position to spread a clearly misogynistic message to women and young girls. That makes it relevant. Put your apron on. Return to the 1950s, even better, to the 19th century. Dream small. Why are you trying to squelch discussion? Why are you totally buying in on what the poster said? Did you double check his story?

I see no religious discussion here. I see a man saying that a woman barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen is the next role after volleyball is over. . This is yet again a blatant attack on Baylor and the fact they choose to be a religious University. The posters on this board should be ashamed for stooping so sleazy low in order to push their political agenda There is no attack here on Baylor. A coach simply says what he thinks the role of women is. Some people agree. Some people don't.

^ no, the core issue here is why are we discussion religion on VT. Why don't we just move right on to Trump while we're at it? . That’s with this thread is really about, and attack on religion and a attack on Republican conservatives Really..... Regardless of Ryan said this as a liberal, Conservative, independent, Libertarian, Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, buddhist, agnostic, atheist, I do not care. I would call it out regardless. This is an outdated practice and should not have been said. NO women, and I repeat, NO women, should HAVE to serve their husband. Some choose to do so, thats ok. But they should never be told thats what their calling is in life.

Every since that prayer was said on national TV, you left wingers have been finding ways to to trash Baylor. I think it’s pathetic and sad.

If he indeed did not say it, I would be the first to take back everything I said, however, I know if he did indeed say it, you would not take away your "defense" for him, no matter what he said.

You all need to examine your own motivation and wonder why you feel the need to put down the university that has a Christian affiliation. There is something warped and pathetic about your continual attacks on this university in particular.

Would you still think the implication was that she shouldn’t have a career and simply devote every hour of her day that way? Men serve their wives, women serve their husbands. Again, the BAYLOR ASSISTANT COACH is a living breathing example of the program supporting a woman who had a child in early December and didn’t want that to interfere with her career goals so she was back on the bench just days after giving birth. You would not have said about those other groups because you wouldn’t have assumed the absolute worst meaning of the message if it was from somebody on the same team as you.

Aside from weddings and funerals, I haven’t been to a religious service of any type in a decade and somehow I find myself defending religion. Never thought I’d see the day.

This is the Baylor volleyball culture. People know what they're getting into. If you don't like it, you don't go there. I don't care for it. But it has nothing to do with me.
With the unmitigated disaster that school has been over the past several years, I'm sure they have zero problem with a coach leaning into the religious aspects of the school that have here-to-for been abandoned for successful football and basketball programs.

A mission of Baylor University is to develop students who will "serve others". This does not mean "serve" as in dote on others and be their servant in the context that some apparently are trying to twist it to mean, it means to be a good person and citizen who contributes to society by helping others. I am blown away by the fact that some have seemingly never heard the word "serve" used in this context (or maybe they have and just want to push a narrative).
Google "Baylor university serve others" and you'll get a ton of results. Students at the university likely hear the word used in this context on a regular basis and understand what it means, even if trolls on volleytalk do not.

Would you be this riled up if the school in question was not of Christian denomination (which you have an interest in defending given your stated affiliation) , but... say... Islamic ? You’re not fooling us either.

Women are breeders. The only reason for a woman to go to school is to find a husband (not start a career). Marry young, pop out babies, change nappies, clean house, dish out food, provide sex, and obey your husband. Vote for Trump. That's your biological destiny. God's plan. I am so sick of the rules on this board only being enforced when it comes to conservatives, why is this moron allowed to say things like this without retribution? Evangelicals didn't vote, en masse, for Trump? Come now, they're a substantial chunk of his "base". In the context of this thread, it is perfectly relevant. You're the one calling another board member a "moron" simply for expressing an honest opinion that you disagree with. Other than, I believe, accurately characterizing their "belief", I said nothing disparaging about evangelicals (unless you believe that voting for Trump is disparaging). Apparently, from your perspective, conservative evangelicals should be able to say whatever they want, in the name of religion, without criticism or blowback. Liberals should just STFU.
