USC's system has the MB setting the ball if the setters make the first play. Both Adams and Candelas have been able to backset and back bumpset to either OHs or Opps resulting in kills.

Thanks for all the excellent replys. Im a new fan to volleyball , just starting to watch the last three years. Luckily Ive been able to watch a Washington team develop into National caliber. However I am just getting the eye to be able to see actually what they might be doing as far as plays ect. . Threads like this are really helpful to me for more enjoyment of the game. The expertise and knowlege of the poster here is amazing. Also the board has helped me see a larger picture of volleyball. At first I only saw the Pac 10 teams and then was able to enjoy the strong national teams and their strengths and differences. It really has widened and deepened my appreciation of volleyball. Thanks all again and Merry Christmas

Back in the 1990's, big leftie Erin Borske was a larger- than-life... Wellsian? :-)... left-side hitter for Illinois. She and Minnesota's Katrien DeDecker each had 40+ kills in a five gamer at Huff. Though stellar on the court, Borske's off-court problems left her with no place to go at Illinois or, ultimately, anywhere else.
I've only seen one left-handed player play LS.
Just remembered, Metcalf played as an OH for most part of the season for Despar Perugia last season. (Aguero of Cuba was their Opp) The only time she was moved to Opp was when their setter got injured and Aguero assumed setting duties.
Her numbers as a OH was quite good...

It's my understanding Illinois refused to give her her release when Hebert left. She didn't want to play at Illinois, so she went pro. Too bad. She was a great player.

What about the lefty at San Diego that transferred from Washington State? Isn't she a left side player? Carlsen .. that's the name I'm lookin for .. isn't she a left side lefty? Kristen Carlson. BearClause, I'm surprised you never saw Carlson play, since she was in the Pac-10 for a year before she transferred to San Diego... so it should have made it two lefties you've seen play on the left-side.
