USA men beat France 87-82 for the Gold medal Funny how the Olympics started with the USA men losing to France and everyone getting all panicked over it. Maybe the coach isn't such a hopeless screw-up and maybe we didn't have totally the wrong team in Tokyo?

3x3 Basketball is ... a bunch of guys jacking up long shots and driving for lay-ups. Isn't that the basic description of all modern basketball?

Maybe the coach isn't such a hopeless screw-up and maybe we didn't have totally the wrong team in Tokyo? Its the trouble with being the US coach, you can't succeed you can only not fail. A skeptic of both the coaching and team construction might suggest that a US team with better talent than the Durant GSWs won by 5 over a French team that wouldn't win 20 games in the NBA. The same skeptic might also question why Lillard, the US' worst player throughout these games, played the third most minutes on the team or quibble with some other issues. Of course the only word in the above paragraph that really matters is won

USA men beat France 87-82 for the Gold medal Watching the last 3.5 minutes felt like 15 minutes. That's basketball. Whenever a game is close and teams have to intentionally foul, it always takes forever for the last few minutes to be played. During the playoffs this year, there was one game that took 33 minutes of real time to play the last 90 seconds of game time.

Pretty impressive for Japan to even get to the final. They've only qualified for the Olympics five times and never finished higher than fifth, which was in 1976.

Maybe the coach isn't such a hopeless screw-up and maybe we didn't have totally the wrong team in Tokyo? US had plenty of enough talent to run through the Olympics undefeated and win by an average of 15 per game...even the players were grumbling about the most over rated coach of all time...sheer talent won that gold, not coaching...

Turns out that Popovich had a post-game message to all the critics:
