Everyone is super excited by Butler but she’s always meh to me. Lots of Wow moments coupled with way too many meh moments.

They're all just guesses anyways.
Not like they're going to be right anyways. Just look at the old Tokyo thread from Rio

I do find it interesting how high Butler's stock seems to be even though we've seen nothing of her other than NCAA/non-A team stuff. And while she's a great blocker, as many Texas middles have been, what makes her The One we see as our next young middle? Just curious as I've seen her mentioned in this thread and often in the thread on the women's board. Not saying it's Rettke, but at least we've seen her potential at VNL. And her college team has invested time in her serving/playing back row. She looked great in Anaheim and Karch loves the kid.

Her blocking has improved every season, and once she gets a setter that can set her at the appropriate height consistently and with tempo, she could be pretty much unstoppable. Also, in terms of serve and defense, she was pretty good her freshman year, it’s just that O’Neals serve and defense are better.

If Larson retires, she will be very, very hard to replace. Whoever takes her spot will need to hit better to make up for her stellar all-around play, and they'll still need to pass and play defense.

Idk I seem to remember Alhassan being the obvious next thing in the middle too because of her athleticism, blocking and history of setters who couldn’t properly locate the ball for her.

Inky had her injuries. Alhassan got involved in the mess that was Caserta.
Ogbgou only got her start with the NT in 2018. Same with Washington. Everyone thought it was going to be Dixon. Maybe Adams? and Foluke.
They're literally just guesses. Its not like Karch hasn't thrown a curveball before

Rettke might be lights out on offense but in 2019 she was slower than molasses to the pins (due to her size) and her blocking was abysmal. Butler is quicker to the pins so that is why I think she will rise to the top.

Listen, I'm not a fan of the idea of Krob replacing Larson but that is what WILL happen. No sense in denying it. I think Mac May could be the next "Larson" but she needs time to develop. I think by Paris she will be in the conversation but not starting.

I will say, USA volleyball has had a history of keeping playings at most position 2-3 Olympic cycles. We've really only had turnover at the Opp since Hooker. I think we see Washington/Chi stay on. That third spot is totally up in the air.

Rettke need to study footage of Yuan Xingue on repeat. She could be that good but she has to move faster. The game just keeps speeding up.
