I am not going into specifics listing any players but I think a lot of people would be very surprised if they knew how many players at the D1 level have to walk-on and/or walk-on for one or two seasons in hopes they will get a scholarship. Most people assume it is mostly Defensive Specialist that have to do this but there are a lot of front row players that are now in the mix as well. A good friend of mine calls it the dirty little secret of D1 that no one talks about. It also happen in D2 and NAIA but just not as prevalent because they can stack money. Probably very likely for volleyball it is a big factor with how many players are in the transfer portal. Please do not misinterpret the message, I am not saying it a bad thing because every player should chase their dreams. It just a hard reminder that even girls volleyball in college is a business and these coaches get paid to win. After spending the last few years in it. Yes, that's all accurate.
