Regarding stats, could someone explain the blocking stats. What constitutes a BS and a BA. If 3 blockers are up and 1 of them clearly blocks the opponenet, how is that scored?? A block solo is regarded as 1 block. If two players go up, it is counted as each getting .5 of the block or each player getting a block assist. If three players go up, each gets a block assist and .5 of the block. So, it can be misleading. In an entire match, a team may block the ball 9 times, but still register 10.5 blocks (or something like that). |

To further expound on ROY's points, the 1 block and .5 block he refers to, tallies up the team blocks. So if, collectively, the players record 3 solo blocks and 7 block assists, the team blocks would be 6.5 ... so 1 team block for every solo and .5 for every assist. As far as individual blocking stats go, if a player recorded 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists, they would be put down as having six blocks in the match. A little screwy, I know, but that's the way it works. |

As far as I know as long as the touch is clear it's a solo block. Doesn't matter how many players went up for it. In int'l they do not keep stats of BA so even if two (or three) blockers go up the one with the most touch gets the credit. If it's very unclear it's recorded as a team block.... |

As far as I know as long as the touch is clear it's a solo block. Doesn't matter how many players went up for it. In int'l they do not keep stats of BA so even if two (or three) blockers go up the one with the most touch gets the credit. If it's very unclear it's recorded as a team block.... Unfortunately, it turns out to be a subjective thing most times, and stats crews at universities across the country are mostly volunteers ... if there are any stat crews at all (ie: not the sid doing it him/herself). Usually a crew will just err on the side of convenience and award double and triple blocks, as long as all the players get off the ground. That is especially true for home teams. |
