They just hired an assistant...safe to assume they knew this was coming and he'll be the successor. That's my guess. Interesting decision, if so.

If he were the planned successor, wouldn't it make sense to hire him as the first assistant or associate HC? Also just read his bio... "brought D1 head coaching experience," which is technically true since he was on the men's side where D1/D2 are combined, at Belmont Abbey, but a D2 school...odd way to twist that IMO

I feel like if you coach a D1 program that competes at the D1 level you get to call it D1 experience. P.S. Belmont Abbey plays Long Beach tonight in the NCAA D1 tournament lol

Congrats to ERIC MAJORS for being named as the new Head Men's Coach at Graceland University...his alma mater.
Drake will begin a new search to fill this vacated position. It is a full time, 12 month position. Interested applicants should send resume materials directly to head coach, Darrin McBroom at darrin.mcbroom@drake.edu

This is one of those "resign now or else we will fire you" kind of resignations. Rumor is there were lots of unhappy players and families in this program. He allegedly has kicked several scholarship players off the team these past couple seasons and taken their scholarships away. Parents went to the AD, and now the school is supposedly going to cover the cost of attendance for these players who were kicked off the team even if they don't choose to return to the team. Seems the AD's hand was forced. Again, with these kinds of things you never know who is in the right/wrong (the players or the coaches). Players nowadays will often take their frustration about lack of playing time and cast all kinds of aspersions on their coach, but then there are of course some toxic coaches out there. So, we should always take anything we hear in these situations with a grain of salt, and just remember that there are two sides to every story. What I think we can all agree on, though, is Liberty should have been a more successful program these past six seasons under Johnson than they were.

This is a program that should be better, IMO. They won the regular season title in their last season in the ASUN (ahead of FGCU and Lipscomb). This past season wasn't great, but I think they had to deal with quite a few injuries. But I agree, definitely a mid-major that could be in the hunt for at large bids in their best seasons.

I would think it must something along these lines (mentioned above) or some other off court issue. IMO, if it was purely based on wins and losses, they would have made this decision back in December or January. Can anyone else think of a coaching change this late based on the previous year's performance?
