It is kinda funny that Arkansas is in the top 20 way-too-early national title odds with no known returning or incoming players. I'm sure things will change quickly on that front between the Kentucky recruits and portal adds for Calipari but still. I heard that Calapari was never a big fan of the transfer portal, but instead preferred star incoming freshmen. He probably will get some Kentucky decommits.

Arkansas makes it official with Calipari. Meanwhile, Scott Drew is reportedly interviewing at Kentucky. Speaking of Kentucky, I think they might have the dumbest and most delusional fan base in college basketball. The amount of the BBN that doesn't seem excited about a guy who literally won the national title at Baylor (which was basically an extinct program when he took over there) just four years ago is incredible. They think Jay Wright is coming, lol.

Edey had to go for 50+ to give Purdue a chance, and he just wasn't capable of doing that. Clingan could guard him straight up for most of the game, as they only really doubled when Johnson was on the floor. His 37 points is also a bit misleading. He had a red-hot start, but then UConn adjusted over the next 20 minutes or so (when the game was still in doubt), and he scored like 10 points in garbage time.

UConn was just better.

Kentucky needs to move down its candidate list, as Scott Drew passed and decided to stay at Baylor. This reminds me that I meant to make my top five best college basketball jobs list. I think that North Carolina, Kansas, Duke and UConn are the four best jobs in the country at the moment. I would have put Kentucky fifth if they actually landed Drew, but since they didn't, I'm not even sure. When multiple coaches pass on you, then you start looking more like UCLA and Louisville than you do like the aforementioned schools. I'm not sure what the fifth-best job would be right now, though I might pick Arizona.

Kentucky appears to be on the verge of hiring Mark Pope from BYU. Pope was a member of Pitino's legendary 1996 Kentucky national championship team. I had a feeling this might happen if Kentucky struck out on their top choices. It's reminiscent of UCLA firing Ben Howland, trying to hire some top coaches that had no interest and then ultimately settling for Steve Alford, who they knew would say yes. This despite Alford coming off a loss to 14 seed Harvard in the first round of the tournament, which is the worst and most embarrassing loss in the history of University of New Mexico athletics. Anyway, I think Pope is a good coach. BYU men's basketball is a pretty tough job, and he did a lot better in the Big 12 than I thought he would. I certainly understand why the Kentucky fans are unhappy, as they discovered that they aren't much different than UCLA and Louisville, but it could have been worse. We'll see.

Even worse to miss out on Drews with his close friendship with the AD but Pope is a good hire.

Unless someone unexpectedly leaves, the last major college job is filled now that BYU is reportedly hiring Kevin Young from the Suns. It sounds like Ryan Smith (billionaire owner of Qualtrics, the Utah Jazz and the soon-to-be the relocated/renamed Arizona NHL team) and Danny Ainge had a lot to do with this. I think BYU may have actually upgraded. I think Pope is a good coach, but he has zero tournament wins. And he's pretty unpopular in Provo right now. I don't really blame the BYU fans for that. Leaving for his blue blood alma mater is one thing. But the fans are miffed that he didn't bother to acknowledge them on his way out. I mean, Musselman and even Cal did that, and they had way more acrimonious situations with their fan bases and ADs than Pope did. And Pope immediately flipping prized recruit Collin Chandler (who is still on a mission, lol) to Kentucky and potentially poaching some others didn't help.
