All this talk of setters has me thinking. In 2025, we will have Addy Horner coming in. Addy is a very good setter and also a strong attacker on the right side. Anyone who watched the Under Armor All American game knows that Charlie is a good attacker as well, she had a large number of kills off strong attacks. Given this, I would love to see Wisconsin try what I would call a 4-2 with Addy and Charlie sharing the setter duties and playing RS when they are in the front row without subbing either of them out. Wisconsin would always have a setter that could set the ball, even when they hit the ball to the back row setter to try to get Wisconsin out of system, the other setter could set the ball. The back row setter could then be available for a right side pipe attack from the back row. I know this will likely never happen, but its April and I have way too much time to think about things right now.

Wisconsin ran it with Courtney Thomas and Janelle Gabrielsen. Anything is possible!

I don’t think that’s an apples to apples comparison. I don’t even think of UConn as the biggest powerhouse, but if they keep winning national championships every single time they make the Final Four, and they make a few more, that could change. I do think the national titles keep UCLA in the conversation when it comes to basketball powerhouses. I’ll say that much. Sorry, makes no sense. Stanford has been on an incremental slide since 2018. They won the championship in 2019 but lost more matches and Dunning’s recruits were gone. Haven’t recruited quite as good…haven’t been quite as good in OOC… the Covid year was a kill shot, and now they are really without a player who scares you going into a match. Their roster in 2024 is just not as good as 5, 6, 7 teams-not sure that could be said from 2005 to 2018. Their conference just pulled the rug from beneath them (they had to find a new conference) and they are 2000+ miles away from most of the schools in their new conference. Who is gonna want to be recruited to that? Anyway, I don’t think they have the credentials any longer to be a powerhouse, let alone THE powerhouse, and their recruiting and conference no long give them a foundation to be a powerhouse. I see the slide continuing… they are certainly no longer elite. we’ll see 🏐 You make it sound like 2019 is the equivalent of the Lew Alcindor/Bill Walton years. That was 4 seasons ago. They’ve earned #1 seeds the past two years. Didn’t make it to the Final Four either season, but they hadn’t exactly fallen off the face of the earth, either. I’ve already stated they have institutional barriers to competing at an elite level in volleyball they’ll have to figure out. I mean, it’s akways been an issue, but because of where college athletics has gone it’s been exacerbated greatly. But I don’t feel like the decline already happened, I feel like the next 5 to 10 years will be key for Stanford in a multitude of ways. But when Hambly goes to a high school to recruit a top target I still consider them a part of the Big 3 in volleyball recruiting. For the right player they are hard to beat in recruiting even now. Maybe that’s about to change, but that’s how I feel about it today.

Lol I totally thought of the same thing but with the dearth of hitters I have to think Addy is in line to just playing straight opposite.

All this talk makes me think we’re getting closer to renewing season tickets! Wondering if we’ll see any pricing or procedure changes…

That's not how RPI works. Not directly, but 50% of the RPI formula is your opponent’s winning percentage. Texas is a team that always scheduled tough and took very few losses in non-conference. Playing them in conference was a good boost for the RPI for the other Big 12 schools. Not having Texas will have a bit of a negative impact just because you lose their W-L record for every team. The Big 12 will still schedule very well and they’ve shown they can game the RPI, but Texas leaving will very likely have a negative impact. Losing Texas will not have a significant negative impact on the RPI of anyone in the Big XII. They had a good W-L but were a near-sure loss. Losing Oklahoma will more than counterbalance that. The Big 12 being at 18 conference games, and having its teams generally do a better job of scheduling W-L will more than compensate. Big 12 will continue to be RPI favored. The Big Ten is not winning the RPI battles.

All this talk makes me think we’re getting closer to renewing season tickets! Wondering if we’ll see any pricing or procedure changes… Man, I hope they don't jack ticket prices again. Considering what we just paid Ticketmaster and other fees to go to Fiserv Forum in September, I could have season tickets twice...or maybe just funnel all that money back to the AD for better season tickets. 😕

But I won't be posting during the match, I'm not that good at typing on a phone, etc. I'm sure I'll have something to 'report' when I get home, though posting it might not happen until tomorrow morning.

Minor is very good, but she’s not elite; as are Ogilvie and Rubin. The closest to elite in their gym is Francis and she’s not there yet, but a couple years in the USA gym and she has a chance. As for recruiting, there are at least 6 players in the past two recruiting years that Stanford targeted and were rejected. That never happened with Dunning but has with Hambly and absolutely has since Corlett left. Stafford, Babcock, Murray and Rodriquez would have never got away from Dunning. We’ll see how it goes. In the ACC they are going to spend at least half the weeks in their fall academic quarter making cross country trips for matches. Should be interesting….🏐

Should be interesting….🏐 You sure the two Pitt players actually got Stanford offers, committed to the application process and chose elsewhere? hmmmm..... Also, Murray knew she wanted to go to Nebraska since the 8th grade, and in the same class Stanford heavily targeted Blayshov and Harvey, also elite pins (and got them) so I dunno how much I believe your assertion that Stanford "targeted and was rejected" by Murray. More importantly, unless Stanford had a bunch of unused scholarships that nobody knows about, considering that Babcock, Stafford, and Murray, along with the two top 10 pins that did commit to Stanford (Blayshov and Harvey) along with their big international recruit (Ipar Kurt) are all in the same class, it would have been impossible for all of those players to go to Stanford anyway. Sounds to me like you are just making stuff up. Rodriquez wasn't even offered by Stanford. Not saying Stanford wouldn't have wanted her, obviously, but Roddy was at the dream camp at 2017 as an 8th grader, she was offered that summer (it was her only offer at the time) and committed right then and there to John Cook (this was allowed back then). So, again, saying Stanford targeted and was rejected by Rodriguez just sounds to me like you want to make stuff up. I don't disagree that recruiting for Stanford is likely to get more difficult - they've always had the academic barrier, but now that boosters can directly pay athletes, having to compete with other schools on pure $$$ is a whole different beast, and it's a fight that I'm not sure Stanford is willing to pick. The travel piece seems overblown. It's not like Nebraska is some easy travel destination within the blueprint of the Big 10. Those players will have to be on, at minimum, two hour flight (or more if they are flying commercial) for over half of the Big 10 rivals.

I would be surprised if Stanford did.
