Just had a chance to listen to the Volley Takes podcast episode about VT. Pretty interesting and a good listen. Not sure if anyone else has listened, but thought a thread may be a good spot to discuss people’s thoughts.

I'm not the problem. It's everyone else. Honest.

#ClickBait
Without fail, we have this discussion every year.
Let me summarize the findings-
1- This site is very tame compared to other sports forums 2- There is plenty of value added content here 3- There is plenty of nonsense here 4- A LOT of coaches and players frequent the site 5- If they don’t want to read critical things about their volleyball skills or ill advised life choices, they can choose to NOT be on the site (but I’d bet many still do, despite their complaints)
That about sums it up.

There were a few negatives in the podcast, but personally, I think she gave a lot of credit to VT in the podcast.. saying the committee should go to VT when it comes to tourney selection time, how knowledgeable some of the posters are, etc.

Listened to the pod. It's a fair critic that's mostly informed. There are in fact moderators but as we all know they only take action on the most heinous of actions and are not on 24/7. For all the trolls and flame wars between rival programs, the knowledge of the game from the overall userbase is a valuable resource.
Shout out to the Bracketology thread and Avid.

I think people say it's harsh on VolleyTalk because people share honest opinions, and those opinions are interpreted as attacks. There are actual attacks too, but I think most people simply post opinions. And I'm not sure the volleyball world is used to that, with the limited coverage the sport gets overall by critical media.

Just listened. Thought it was pretty good. (Go to Spotify and search "Volley Takes podcast.")
Abby Benton is a former college player (William Peace University). Seems very knowledgeable about the sport and about Volleytalk. She says she's a lurker for about two years, not a registered user and has never posted.
She gives nice props to Avid and to TrojanSC for Bracketology.
This particular episode of her podcast is titled "Is Volley Talk Really That Bad?"
Fortunately, she doesn't mention or seem to be familiar with Off The Net. Thank heavens.
Also no mention of Yoshida Yerpantz.

I find it ironic that people judge VolleyTalk (or any websites that use anonymity) for being judgy.
What's funny? Many in the Rise organization know exactly what my handel is here, so, when I'm critical... or even make an off-handed negative comment... I'm not exactly protected.
They might be a bit more forgiving because I'm a season ticket holder, but, if they wanted to call me out, they can.
