Brazil takes two L's in the semis.
Germany played trash int he first but edged T/T in the second and third.
This match will probs be better than the gold medal watch. Welp.

the class of Taiana/Talita is really started to show as this match progresses. These guys were the no. 2 or 3 team in the world for a little while in the early 2010s. One amazing thing about Talita is she has won 5 or more events with four different partners. Of those four, only Larissa did much without Talita. Antonelli did win 4 other events in her career, but she won 8 with Talita. The other two only one with Talita. The way she is always there for her teammates really shines through when she plays with Taiana. They are well past their primes now but every now and them when they start clicking you can see a little bit of the old magic. Beach volleyball is a crazy sport because there's so much longevity in it! Of the 2008 Olympics participants, we still have Xue, Talita, Ludwig. Ludwig and Talita have both participated in Olympics with 3 different partners each, with Ludwig looking to qualify for her 4th. A testament to how they can elevate other players. I feel especially bad for Talita, who isn't likely to play in another Olympics. She just missed out on a podium finish in 2008 and 2016.

just got up, haven't read the post above mine. watching GER v. BRA. Up to 8-12 now. Ludwig off so far today. lots of her digs are not well controlled. some of her sets are really trappy or 7' off, slightly behind Lippmann. Couple of times she had a perfect set for an Option in transition and backed off of it to set instead. IOW tentative, or tense. Ludwig I know would have hammered that Option. Doesn't help most of Lippmann's serves are sailing out. Last night my Youtube suggestions showed me the Gold medal match in Rio. Of course I watched. Such a contrast Ludwig's confidence. Also, in comparison to that match, Talita drops and digs Laura's attacks so better than Agatha did.
OK, back to this match. I was hoping it would be a nail biter but not so much yet.

OMG Ludwig can't buy a point. Hitting at the pulling defender not working. Waterfall over the blocker not working... Talita too quick for that. Sharp angle landing out. Set 1 closes, and haven't looked at stats but Ludwig probably in the negative on hitting %. Most are good sets.
I don't even know who this player is with Ludwig's name on the back of her jersey.

OK that second set was more what I was expecting.
Talita's defense is just superb. Heat at her head is worthless.

It's incredible that we still get to take in the talents of athletes like Talita and Ludwig. Longevity for sure.

And Ludwig losing the Finals third set 11-15 to China's Xue/Xia after being at 10-10. (25:23, 22:24 in the first two) Laura Ludwig had quite a few errors - 10 out of 46 attempts but visually looked pretty good. She won the first set with an over on one dig. China came through with a clutch block on Lippmann in the third set teens. Lippmann had four blocks but looked a bit tired at the end. In the second set Laura even took her partner's sunglasses to the ref for cleaning while Louise was doing some bent over heavy breathing.

I really thought Germany would win.
Xia looks improved from the last few comps I saw her play. She's more consistent all round.

Top attackers from semifinalists. a few top 1/4 finalists and the Klingers and Zoe Verge-Depre who all had good efficiency ratings. Makes one wonder how the Klingers lost to Spain 1 Moreno. By the eye test it looked as if Ludwig performed better, but she also had plenty of mistakes. By and large the round one losers had just as low percentages. Points minus errors divided by total attemopts. en.volleyballworld.com/beachvolleyball/competitions/beach-pro-tour/2024/challenge/saquarema-bra/statistics/women/best-attackers/Hegeile .536 R.
