Maybe.. China can be nasty.. and they're due. personally I’m not as high on China bc I’m not that high on Zhu rn lol. But I can see some upside there. LYY is goated China has had a major weakness at libero for a long time. If they can find someone to be somewhat decent they'll be amazing, imo. I'm not sure what their current setting situation is either but Zhu at 75% and LYY is a lot to deal with.. Throw Gong in for good measure and they are not to be messed with, imo.

If I were choosing an olympic line up today I would probably go with the following roster for Italia:
S: Orro, Bosio OH: Sylla, Pietrini, Bosetti OPP: Egonu, Antropova MB: Fahr, Danesi, Lubian L: De Gennaro DS: Fersino
That line up "should" make the podium.

I just don't know if the lefts are going to be consistent enough for Italy to go far. Cate/MDG can pass two, and play both Antropova/Egonu?

I honestly think this is a pretty non-negotiable lineup. I would very much doubt anybody breaks into that group.

As I was drawing up the stat rankings yesterday for LVF outsides, I decided to do the same thing for opposites. KP: - Haak: 51.5%.
- Egonu: 46.1%.
- Antropova: 45.4%.
- Akimova: 43.7%.
- Obossa: 42.2%.
American efficiency: - Haak: 0.435.
- Antropova: 0.313.
- Egonu: 0.305.
- Smarzek: 0.279.
- Anthouli: 0.275.
Error % (forced and unforced): - Haak: 0.080.
- Anthouli: 0.098.
- Kipp: 0.123.
- Smarzek: 0.124.
- Mingardi: 0.132.
Antropova comes in at #7 with 0.141 error %, Egonu at #11 with 0.156. Egonu and Antropova are very very similar players stats-wise. One is slightly higher risk/reward, but I think you'll probably want to give both a shot with the dominant starter on a short leash.

China and Serbia reading this rn after upsetting two goated squads from USA and Brazil 👀 Maybe.. China can be nasty.. and they're due. China isn't a favorite to make it to the podium. Their performance has been underwhelming the last year (their only noteworthy victory was when they won Asian Games gold...but that was against B and C teams). Cai Bin hasn't been a coach that inspires confidence. Granted, its a tough job for anyone to take over from Lang Ping, but the consensus among Chinese fans is that he simply isn't cut out for top level international volleyball. He seems to lacks strategy, understanding and solutions to get China far. Of course, with Zhu Ting back on the roster, that can boost morale on the team and should lift spirits. She brings much needed experience and leadership to steady the ship. Will that compensate for the Chinese coach's incompetence? We will know soon enough.

LYY is a gifted player, but she clearly couldn't carry the team on her shoulders in 2023, given the subpar performance of the team. Now with Zhu back, maybe the team can at least have hope of better performance. Of course, that also depends on whether Cai Bin can maximize the opportunity of having Zhu on the team. He seems to struggle with even figuring how to coach the team against lesser opponents, never mind Italy.
