I've got a great idea: Let's give out trophies just for participating. That way, nobody feels left out. Group hug!

I'm also going to issue a shout-out to Alyson Karaba of Michigan state who converted 51 of 52 serve receive attempts and had 42 digs in losing efforts against Minnesota and Iowa. She looked very good in the Minnesota match.
Miller's write-up and stats look impressive. I'm not minimizing her accomplishments here at all and I'm happy for her POW award.

Are you saying she passed 51 of 52 perfect or that she shanked just one?

I hope they run Kelli Miller's "Faces in the Big Ten" TV spot on Wednesday, when Purdue plays on the Big Ten Network live match. I wonder if she talks about this? I can't get the video link to work, yet.
Sept. 27, 2006 What were the circumstances surrounding your open heart surgery in 2000 and how did you deal with it?
"I was born with a heart condition called aortic stenosis and I've been limited from playing certain sports that involve a lot of running since I was born. I was allowed to play volleyball, but not basketball or soccer. It helped me in a way, because I was able to focus more of my time on volleyball. I wasn't able to play basketball in high school when the coaches wanted me to. I got to spend more time playing volleyball, so that was a good thing. I went into my surgery kind of blind. I didn't really think about it and I didn't want to know what was going to happen. I tried to just look at the positives. I thought, "I'm going to go in, be in here for a couple days, get out and be recovered." It was nothing more than that."

She's one of my favorites. Solid passer, not a flashy defender because she's usually in position off the block to cover her area - making her digs look routine. Had to hit outside early in her career due to a shortage of OHs at Purdue and did a good job for her size. Kind of ironic that she has a heart condition, since she plays the game with a great deal of it.
