Arkansas lost a lot but still return two huge pieces from last year in Houge and Jackson and got some nice transfers Only one transfer, though a super important one: Romani Thurman. Everyone else is a returning player (or a freshman, but I don't expect the Fr to see much action this year, especially with Lambert taking a redshirt). We've heard a lot about the potential of players like Ruy and Madkin, so it's great to see them in action - finally! I think this is what Jason is really good at as a coach - finding the best combinations, encouraging players to keep going if they hit rough patches, etc. Even in the years he was building from almost nothing, you could see both the individual players and team concepts really come together over the course of the season. I am, honestly, really surprised the Hogs won both matches today. They are still undeserving, imo, of a top 25 ranking, but they could end up being a little closer to the tournament bubble than I originally thought. I freaking love watching them play defense.

was real impressed with Arkansas back-court. read tip swell and their libero impressed.
can't remember Arkansas having a single back-row attack all match?
Marchozie (Poly) went out holding her leg in that 3rd set. She looked to me like the most improved Poly player from the returnees.
Stockham and Massinggale seemed gassed last set and a half. Since conference won't have 2 in a day matches, won't be an issue in conference, she could still lose another 10 lbs, she looks in better shape this year, as her heavy swings gave way to tips as the match wore on.
Poly was in control and then all it took was a 5 pt Arkansas run with bad Poly passing, and that turned the match around.

Their defense and scrappiness helps a lot. I love Jackson and Weeks in the back, and of course, Hogue. The 3 of them do the little things. It’s hard to lose what they lost in Gillen, Cartwrite and Head, but there is definitely promise for this team. I hope they shock everyone.
