Nobody reported on the fifth set, except that they won handily. Who played? How did the win by so much? Someone said it was Lauren playing opposite and Alex at OH2. Everyone else as expected (Mel, Mckenna, Phoebe/Calissa, Z) That was me (I think). I didn’t pay attention to the backrow subs, sorry. We won by taking a commanding lead. I’m not sure what we did besides that… or what ISU did/didn’t do that contributed. Maybe the ISU players thought that four sets was enough, I don’t know.

Haha, that is the problem with exhibitions. Never know if the other team is just working on a wrinkle or if you're playing a real match.

Holy sh!t that stat line by Wookie is stellar. Hopefully just a sophomore slump situation (which is especially understandable with a coaching change added to the mix). Looking forward to the year she could have.
Leaning slightly toward Acevedo getting the start against Stanford.
Regardless, it feels good to be hopeful about the next 3-4 years of this program.

For that 5th set, this was the line up. It was the same as the 4th set. S: Shaffmaster OH: Wucherer and Acevedo MB: Awoleye and Minatee Opp: Crowl L: Z DS: Thibault (for Crowl) I think Iowa State started the set struggling with passing and Crowl really served them tough and they were so out of system. MN really capitalized on that and the set was gone by the time they switched side at 8.

I don’t think this has been said enough but this Iowa State team is very solid. Their defense and L are so good. It was a great test for us!

But again, if OH2 or Opp needs an interchange, the gophs are in an enviable position of having a bench player who can rock it.

I’m not gonna change my “possible lineup” in Sunday’s match thread, but yeah, this wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Especially Alex in at L2.

I never would have thought Crowl over Grote, but Keegan is big on tough serving. Lydia is one of our better ones, but if Lauren showed some good stuff yesterday, it might be enough to give her the edge. At the very least, it seems likely that L2 and Opp are the two tightest spots for competition. Again, more than one athlete who can get the job done in each position (and if we're being honest, probably more than two!--what an unexpected luxury).

Winning obviously feels great but I love that the girls really battled it out and stayed in the game when they could have won that 2nd and 3rd set and they might not have to play the 5th. Ohh we love having depth! This will be a different season, at least that’s what I hope 🤞

I watched set 5 from the bleachers at the end of the court, at floor level. The Gophers seemed lacking in height, which was surprising. I expected them all to be of Crowl and Shaffmaster's height. None seemed significantly taller than 5'10" or so. Is the team lacking in height? Or am I wrong?

So did I see Lexi Hart in the Robert K Eddy Performance Center seats?
Also, was nice to see they moved and finally updated the banners to the bench side.

I mean we're definitely not the tallest team in the big ten, but all our front row players are over 6'0 (unless McGhie runs a 5-1 😬)
