The advantage of a 5-1 is presumably that you can get the ball to the middle more with better passing and setting. Sounds like they are pushing that idea, but without Orzol the badgers will struggle to have the ball control on the court. Glad TSC stepped up. Will be interesting watching her against Louisville, as I suspect will happen. Hmm, you think Julia is not going to be ready by next week?

Based on what people are saying they saw of her, no, I don't think she will be ready. Could be wrong, but it's a challenge for this team if she's out. Interesting to see how they handle it.

9 SA, 15 SE. HP 0.341 to 0.033 Blocks 11-1
Waite was impressed by Trinity and Charlie. Will be interesting to see how they perform against a really great team.

Sheffield
The crowd: Great to see people lining up, smell the popcorn. You never get used to the first match feel. All the new players said it was the largest crowd they played in front of. They needed the crowd to give them the feel. Franklin: Feels great being back. The use of a exhibition match: There hasn't been a lot of 6on6 in the gym. Facing a real block with players with another jersey was a change. Trinity: Sheff thinks everybody in the FH got a glimpse of the future. Thinks she will contribute this year. Passes well when she needs to. Broad jumping ability is a real addition. She will get up on the block high and quick. Charlie: Sheff- Serves well, she's a smaller blocker but gets her hands in the right space. Connections will take time. Sounds like speed is faster than attackers are used to with previous setters. They are trying to find space for attackers. Booth says Charlie is fearless, Franklin says she is very trusting so hitters have to be ready! Two libero option: Used it out of boredom because not able to make other subs (think this is a joke). He doesn't know if they will use it in the regular season. The rhythm changes with L subs. Wanted to use this as a chance to feel it out. Not sure what he is going to do.

Was at the match. It will be a 5-1. Charlie is the real deal! The hitters better be ready to hit as Charlie is not afraid to set the ball everywhere. Sheff played everyone.( minus the two injured and or sick). A lot of nice defensive players on this team. Too many serving errors as usual. Bradley has a nice ball club. It was a nice test. The two Libero platoon is different and I will need to get used to it. Trinity had a nice match. Lots of raw talent. She can jump! Put a lot of balls down hard. Made freshman mistakes too! They redid the Volleyball Wall in the hallway at the Fieldhouse. Very well done and First class all the way. Every W letter winner for volleyball has their name on the wall! The veterans on this team don’t get rattled. I saw Sarah doing a little coaching to Trinity about a mistake she made. The silver Medalist Dana was there and gave a little speech. Players on both teams were listening and watching her and not their coaches between sets.

Bradley was 2-16 in the Missouri Valley Conference last year. I dunno how any Wisconsin fan can come away from this feeling good about the start of the preseason. Tons of service errors, when Charlie F. is front row the block didn't push points, Franklin hit .241 and Robinson hit .222. This team will have to either have a collective massive improvement in a week or hope that Texas/Louisville/Stanford are not on their game.

Wisconsin chose NOT to ease into the season, they opted to go right into the lions den and schedule Louisville/Texas/Stanford, all in a row, to start the season *IF* Wisconsin is to win next weekend (and I want them to, as it only benefits the collective Big 10), they are either going to have to put in a much better performance than they did against Bradley or hope their opponents are still trying to find their stride. Do you disagree? Because if you don't actually disagree with my statement, then your post really just comes off like you just want something condescending to say.

Man now that Washington is in the B1G you're going to be a wet blanket around these parts all the time now, aren't you. I bet you are a blast at parties. I didn't watch the match, but with Wisconsin breaking in a freshman setter who didn't play Spring ball, without two key contributors and with limited reps for Franklin this preseason, I was definitely grading on a curve. It's the same curve I'm going to use next week to not go into a spiral if Orzol doesn't recover in time and we go 0-3 vs our lovely schedule of three top 6 teams this first week. I also get the feeling that Fuerbringer is going to make some chaos sets the first month or so until she and the team get more on the same page and I think Sheffield is going to let it happen; they're going to believe that her aggressive setting being fully online in November is going to help them make a run. I expect plenty of "what in the world was that" sets from her this year, both good plays and bad plays.

We didn't play two starters, Smrek in particular. I don't think I need to reiterate to you how significant Smrek is. I'm not sure who will play next week, and I won't make a judgment until I watch the entire squad in action.

Not being condescending, just going off your body of work lol It’s not even the beginning of the season yet, I’m sure they’ll improve as good teams with good players often do.
