Exciting Year for Beach!
longbeachstate.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster
this should be a fun year.
there are exciting players to root for - winning a Big West title and a Big West Tourney title is within reach
Meyer has been thru a lot. She's the engine. SHe's a confident player. Imperfect as a lot of very good setters are. She can serve, set, attack, and defend.
& this can be a 2014 type team with a great settter (ala Hudson) with a lot of solid pieces surrounding her.
Glenn. showed a great ability to tool blocks, developed into a very savvy Opp. Now can she add incremental improvement in her backcourt game. Most of all, that serve, jump serve was one of the top serves in the country, will probably mix in some floats. Just a wicked serve for women's indoor and a big weapon. will see how the timing is/develops.
Karach. Also showed a very good jump serve latter season, before the leg injury. lot's to prove, was not a consistent terminator and then got better. Her last year.
Bacon. SOlid blocker #1, can she show increased strength to improve her termination. Does not hit the hardest ball.
Lomgoira. PLayed will when Kennedy was out. Can do the slide. Just a matter of improving as a middle.
SHeffie. The most enthusiastic VB player in the country. Physically she can do it as a MB, with two years of development, and may get in there as an energy sub. The irrestiible force
Maddox. How well she acclimates to the speed/pace and blcoks of D1 will determine a lot of Beach's ceiling. If she can pass decently, will be huge
Lee. could get in the rotation as a 2nd OH, athletic.
Jordan, also athletic, and could be in the rotation, depending on back -row attacks and passing
Chacon/Giami: last chance. Beach really needs consistent play out of the libero. may be the biggest question mark. was no secret Chacon could be a target and can she get
the right mental approach to have her receiving match her play post serve-reception.
left out others who will contribute.
starts off with #3 Big West vs. #3 WCC LMU
then the Pitt Oregon baptism
looking forward to the positive energy this coaching staff brings. Always interesting to see how coaches handle adversity. No question an experience factor to work thru and will be tested. Huus brings a great presence in the huddle.
