An alternative is to use the tools->browsertools->eyedropper (in firefox at least) while on a page with the team colors. Click on the color you want, and it'll copy the hex value of that color into your clipboard. I just tried this^ out for the first time- so cool! I'm never using MS Paint again!

You can sort of move it to your toolbar by choosing "developer tools" (wrench icon) to add to your toolbar. Then it's in the dropdown menu when you click.

You're welcome. I can't always use it then but at least I often can. If I have to go through the "more tools" route, the odds are low.
How do you make threads in Paint? What are the pros/cons?

I only ever use it for match threads to get those color codes with its eyedropper tool. I would paste a screen capture of the team logos in there. And for whatever reason, it's been recently freezing when I try to copy the hex code so the Firefox hack is super timely!

Good idea. I'd never thought of doing that. But I rarely use Paint.
Another tool you might like is something that lightens colors. I try to only use the actual team colors but sometimes they're too dark for me to see. If they're just a bit too dark, a lightener tool works well.
There are probably better ones but this one is easy enough.

Thanks! It's funny how match threaders all encounter these same challenges. I dread making match threads for Northwestern and Michigan State because their only main color is so dark and doesn't show up well against the dark VT background. The color-lightening tool could def help allay the dread, provided I can accept a mismatched font/logo combo, which isn't a given : )

I understand. When I change the color, I usually keep the "main" color (i.e., the name under the logo) correct and change the others. I don't know why but it feels wrong to change the main color, which is odd bc often the uniforms aren't the same color so the school has no qualms about doing that. (To be fair, they probably can't get the exact color from Nike, Adidas, etc.) Plus, I'm getting my "correct" color info from team colors. Where did they get that info? Is it truly the correct color?

Or "living with OCD". At least my inconsistencies here are funny to me. Why can I change the colors that aren't just below the logo? That bothers me (much less now than when I first did it) but it's fairly minor compared to the color of the name below the logo. Why am I relying on a third party web site to wire my brain into thinking I must use that color for the name below the logo (and ideally should for all the team's colors)? Why am I spending so much time worrying about the color anyway? Most ppl who use the thread probably don't care. The human mind is fascinating. And now, I've found somewhere I can talk about it.

I care that you care! I can relate a lot to what you’re saying lol There are parts of my threads I get really particular about and then other parts I’m like ehh whatever, good enough. I do look up the school’s brand/style guides that they have published online and get hex color codes from there. While the schools have their two or sometimes three colors that are most prominent in their branding, they almost always have a secondary palette listed. So if you wanted to have text in a color that is more easily read on the VT background color, there are secondary options the schools technically approves of if that makes you feel better about using them instead of arbitrarily picking a slightly lighter shade of blue haha I made threads for Kentucky and Florida this week and both have a shade of blue that is not great for reading on VT. Florida’s colors are “core blue” and “core orange” but they have secondary colors that are present in their iconic Gator logo. brandcenter.ufl.edu/colors/#OURCOLORS You know what, I’m going to go change the blue text in the Florida match thread to their officially approved “gator” green lol

(I either google the school brand/style/color guide or it's usually linked as a source next to the "colors" section on the school's sports wikipedia page. So the wikipedia page for Florida Gators, not University of Florida. Wikipedia is where I pull team and conference logos so I'm on there anyway)

This is great! I like using a secondary or accent color besides white or gray (which is a lot of teams' secondary or tertiary color). Sometimes ppl think there's no link bc I've used white or gray for the text. (I guess that's a bit better than a year or two ago where ppl didn't realize that there were links bc I had text over them.)
