Yeah. No way she said that to her team. lol yall dont know dbk. She's publicly underplayed how good she thinks her team is for years. There's never been an issue with the players competitiveness or intensity so whatever she's saying to them clearly works. Maybe its a tactic of hers but regardless, I don't think you're right here lol I’m just saying what she says publicly to the media is probably not what she is saying privately to her team. Which is ok, but people were attacking her for saying it to her team.

I didn't realize that the match will dispense with the line judges and use the Olympic replay system. Also, a countdown clock on serves and timeouts will be shorter. This is good news IMO. Sheffield mentioned in his interview with Jon Arias this week. I'm intrigued to see how it works. The PVF had this system. There are cameras along each line and the system analyzes the trajectory of the ball and when it changes course to determine where it hits and sends a graphic to the up refs screen, within a few seconds of the play. As a fan, you only occassionally notice a slight delay in the call. All the line calls are not challengeable so the game moves much better. Only touches, net violations, and foot faults are reviewable by challenge

Good "fun facts". The only addition I would make is for Louisville fans and the reference to Ali having spoken at the Stock Pavilion: the building is exactly what the name makes it sound like; part of the Agriculture School campus, it is a building that has been used for livestock shows, rodeos, as well as concerts, speeches, etc. Dirt "floors", covered with tarps, when necessary. Billy Joel played a concert there in 1977 (I wasn't there), and during the song "Piano Man", instead of the microphone smelling "like a beer", he reportedly sang "the microphone smells like a steer". It also was the building used for signing up for classes when you were a freshman back in the day. Quite the introduction to campus!

This Badger team is insanely talented (although dangerously thin at pin depth) but early on we'll experience growing pains. If we have to rely on Shadd-Ceres and GG still has her yips I'll take Louisville in 5. Better things to come for the Badgers though. Charlie should diversify the setting compared to last season, something not uncommon of a non-player to say.
Ultimately Smrek will become an absolute relentless BEAST this season.

(such as no other league can use it.... or do they not consider the ncaa a league) If not, thats fine... but its still funny that they're using Bolt6 in a LOVB sponsored match. (or it could just be the hawkeye system and none of the above would apply)

I'm excited to see the new Badgers in person! And to see what traps DBK will lay for them. On Wisconsin! Hope you get to come back in December 🤞🏾

It was my understanding that Bolt6 was the cheaper option, but haven't seen any literature, only rumors.

I dont see any numbers for Hawk-eye.

Would be nice if they could use it for the final four. I wonder if SEC schools are allowed to use Hawk-eye during the NCAAT.

Can't resist taking a shot at predicting the outcome of the Badgers' first match of the season.
I think Sheff sends Charlie out with instructions to "set it like you see it". As a result, the middles and oppos have a big night, with Sarah doing her thing as needed. The Badgers will also hold their own in the back row with occasional flashes of good things to come from at least one of the freshman. Louisville struggles against the 5-1, at least initially. At the end of it all, Badgers 3-1.

I mentioned this in the Cardinals 2024 thread because there was some discussion about a hype video posted, but I'll mention it here as well.
Relevant to the "fun facts" (and, great write-up on that...The day of Ali's funeral in Louisville was a bit surreal, the city partly shut down so people could pay their respects...people lining th funeral processional route....for miles and miles).
Anyway, the videographer in the Louisville Athletic department that does all the great hype videos for the volleyball team over the past handful of years is Assad Ali, son of "The Greatest" and all around great guy in his own right.
