Unbelievable on that touch call. Glad our girls were able to regroup and get back into it - great attitudes all around.

Lot's of props to go around for Illinois. I gotta give Caroline her flowers, though. Some big late digs and service runs. Well done!

this is a really good win for Illinois. Iowa State is a bubble tournament team so having a win over them could be huge come selection time if both are on the bubble. congrats!!!

Yeah, objectively me neither. Two of those three angles seemed pretty conclusively no touch. I wonder if the ref didn't have those two though.

My brother, nephew, and I got to see the match in person today. Quite a roller coaster, but can’t complain about the final outcome!
Iowa State puts on a fun event in the Hilton Coliseum. Nice venue—half the arena in use with a black curtain across one side. Pep band was fun, and plenty of fan support. Especially impressive since the Iowa State-Iowa football game was going on at the same time over in Iowa City. Was funny when the arena randomly erupted late in the 4th set when Iowa State took a last minute lead and then won the football game. The volleyball was background for a couple minutes there.
Illinois was so frustrating to watch during the first couple of sets. Seemed flat. Very few block touches and so many errors. Then things started clicking a bit. Much better rhythm. Laynie and Ashlyn caught fire. So impressive for freshmen. And Raina was Raina. Man, she can do it all offensively: cool aces, power tips, roll shots, big bangers. So fun.
Some of the same frustrations we’ve been discussing. Brooke’s sets are often not on point. I appreciate the latitude being given to work out the kinks of this quicker tempo style, but the sets are just too low too often. The floor defense was not great at times, especially trying to get to short serves or anything tipped or falling short off of a block touch.
And those last three poor serve receives by CMM were so unexpected. But Illinois hung on for the win. Big win for the team.
Will check out the Wake Forest match tomorrow before heading back home. Lets see if they can close this out in style!

I particularly liked the defensive adjustment we made on the setter’s dumps. The Iowa State setter was killing us in the first two sets. Once our backrow got down and prepared for the ball coming over on the second hit not another one hit the floor. While I wish they had made the adjustment after the first or second time, when they made the adjustment they did a good job. I was also disappointed they were not ready for the dumps from the beginning, as the Iowa State setter was doing the same thing in their earlier matches.

*PSA*
The UIUC audio link appears to be set to start at 7PM tonight! Which is wrong, the match is starting at 4 PM! I've changed the audio streaming link to AM 1400 WDWS. Sounds like that one is actually starting early with a pregame segment!
Yep, asked them to fix this but like oldmanvb said, that would be asking too much. 30 years of loyally broadcasting an Olympic women's sport (not many schools can say that), but you wouldn't know it by looking at the UI's website and social media. Appreciate the mentions here though.
