Stanford just obliterated Texas. Pitt played Buffalo. not sure why anyone moving Stanford ahead of Pitt after last week would be *that* confusing or controversial. fwiw, my entire top 5 didn’t change lol To be honest, ANY of stanford, Pitt or Penn state makes sense. Penn state vs Pitt will be a KEY match for our rankings Stanford confuses me. At times, they look absolutely lost. Like they dont look like stanford teams in the past. They are not physical, but man are they scrapy. Like others have said, they WIN the serve and pass game all the time. YU has a NASTY serve. That %*$# is like a bullett. 5/6 Stanford servers are just plain nasty. Oglivie and Rubin are both elite passers. But they just don't have the hitting and blocking we are used to seeing from Stanford.

I was critical of that Nebraska team last year because they were pulling out shaky wins and dropping sets to teams they had no business being competitive with. They played down a lot last season, and that was my observation. Pitt hasn’t lost a set, so I don’t see the need to leapfrog them, sorry. You were critical because you had an agenda. It is incredibly difficult to do what Nebraska did for much of last year. In any case, the OP seemed perplexed why someone would move down a team who hasn't lost a match. I found it funny to see you liking that post. my agenda of pointing out Nebraska had some flaws last year while everyone thought they were infallible, and then ultimately being proven correct. Teams can win ugly, and that be reflected in their ranking. Pitt has lost not have they lost a set nor have they looked shaky, which would make dropping them perplexing to me, just like the OP.

Their kills/set and hitting efficiency are almost identical to last season's 🤨 Their blocks are lower, but they're still getting quality touches.

Andrew, Kurt and Harvey are all hitting lower than Vincini, Baird & Kipp. They are making up for it by passing well and setting the MBs more in addition to Francis hitting at a way higher percentage. But I don't think you can watch this team and think Stanford's hitting is elite. Blocks per set are only 2.1 versus 2.6 last year. Our last national title team was 3.0.

I do miss the toxic vitriol that normally accompanies each poll thread. I'm sure it will be back in a week or two.

We typically do not move teams down if they have not lost, so I'm wondering why Pitt was moved down by several voters. I had Pitt as #3 last week, this week #1...same 3 teams though (Pitt/Stanford/Penn State). I can see teams moving Stanford to #1 after watching them play Texas, they looked very strong. Stanford's schedule has been much stronger overall. Pitt sweeping Oregon first match of the season with so many newbies might look a bit different even now. However, Stanford and Pitt have common opponents (Pepperdine and UCSB). Pitt Swept both and Stanford won both 3-1. That was the decider for me. Looking forward to the Pitt/PSU match. First really big test for Pitt. PSU was tested on the road at Kentucky and escaped in five. How do they do on this road trip? Pitt has had the weakest schedule of the three, but hasn't dropped a set, that's tough to do! I like having no horse in this race, just fun to watch!

If Pitt and Stanford had not played the same teams in the same week, I might have ranked Stanford #1 bc of the strength of their schedule. But they did play the same teams and Pitt swept while Stanford won in four against both Pepperdine and UCSB.
I can understand any order for Pitt, PSU, and Stanford in the 1-3 spots but that was my reasoning.
