Van Hook leads all “assisters” ?? There should really be a term for the person dedicated to assist-ing the hitters. Is that like the guy with most strikes to home plate? Yup. Same one with the most balls thrown too, so I think the term “thrower” should apply to that guy. Might get him confused with the people in the outfield throwing the balls, but their main job is to be catchers, right?

Coyotes 7 match league win streak ends in a pretty convincing sweep.

Now, post-match… for all my snarkiness about the announcer, (1) we have one! (2) he tried to get things right. (3) he got names pronounced mostly right, and AFAIK corrected himself the one time he got one wrong. (4) we have one! (Again, for emphasis)

Who (wasn’t me) is the prescient poll responder who picked a Tommie sweep?
Congrats to you, too!

Wow, this is a big win. Tommies had struggled a bit to start summit play, getting swept by NDSU and Omaha (admittedly good summit league teams) but a sweep on the road against South Dakota is huge.
Roll Toms!

Wow! Not on my bingo card. Have to eat some crow, the Tommies are for real this year. This is a bigger upset than SDSU over Denver…. And it mixes up the conference race, too….
Hats off to the Tommies, been knocking on the door for a few years, and finally kicked it in!
What’s next? Chaos

This is so awesome! I’m quite relieved to see that Gustafson is back and wasn’t out for too long.

post-match presser:
After watching this, and after some thought, I think this match highlights the disparity between these teams in terms of experience.
After the Tommies threw the first punch, the Yotes were psychologically on their heels for the rest of the match. That's unlike many Yote teams of the past, but this is a team with several freshmen and transfers making big contributions. Mental toughness and resiliency is something that improves with experience.
The Tommies have had very little loss (or gain) from the transfer portal over the last few years. Regardless of talent level, that counts for something! A lot of something, apparently.
