Catching up with the matches I missed
ASUN Quarterfinals #4 - #1 FGCU def #8 Queens 3-0
- FGCU hit .532 as a team, held Queens to .078
- FGCU outscored Queens 75-30 (25-8, 25-10, 25-12)
- ASUN POY Shelby Kent hit .778 (14-0-18) & had 13 digs
WAC Quarterfinals #3 - #5 Cal Baptist def #4 Utah Tech 3-0
- CBU is on roll at the right time, they went 1-19 to start the season but have won 7 of their last 9
- New Mexico transfer Kali Wolf had a team-high 13 kills (.316) for CBU
- For Utah Tech, Kennei Knudsen had 16 kills & 9 digs
Sun Belt First Round #2 - #4 (East) Coastal Carolina def #5 (West) Southern Miss 3-1
- Of course triple-double queen Jalyn Stout was back with 20 kills (.444), 22 assists, 14 digs, 2 aces, 2 blocks
- For Southern Miss, Sadie McAda had 12 kills (.128), 12 digs, 4 blocks
CAA First Round #2 - #3 Towson def #6 Stony Brook 3-0
- Victoria Barrett doing her normal POY stuff, 19 kills (.359) & 13 digs
- Towson hit .314, Stony Brook hit .165

MAAC First Round #2 - #7 Merrimack def #6 Niagara 3-2
- Merrimack's Mckenna Shotwell led with 14 kills & 22 digs, Morgan Thurlow had 9 blocks
- Niagarao had 27 digs from libero Bella Peroni
- Merrimack avenges their sweep loss to Niagara earlier in the year

These would be my top 5 matches for tomorrow: (All times CST) 0130pm (#7) North Texas vs. (#2) Rice – AAC Quarterfinals 0430pm (#4E) Coastal Carolina vs. (#1W) Arkansas State – Sun Belt Quarterfinals 0500pm (#3) Towson vs. (#2) Delaware – CAA Semifinals 0600pm (#3) Cornell vs. (#2) Yale – Ivy League Semifinals 0700pm (#4) Eastern Kentucky at (#1) FGCU – A-Sun Semifinals North Texas just beat Rice last week to sneak their way into the conference tournament - they pulled off two huge upsets at home with that low ceiling which is just a few inches taller than Shaq's height. Coastal Carolina is a very dangerous team with Jalyn Stout. Coastal is better than their record may indicate, but Arkansas State is solid and may still feel like they have an at-large shot. Towson/Delaware is likely going to be a heated match. Towson won 4 straight CAA Championships before Delaware took the title away last year in the CAA Championship match - winning at Towson. Towson is also hosting the conference tournament again this year. Cornell beat Yale last week - and prevented the Bulldogs from hosting the Ivy League tournament. Have to imagine Yale is hungry for revenge - while Cornell is riding a high. Eastern Kentucky played #1 FGCU once this season - at home - and swept. This time - it'll be in Fort Myers with their season on the line. I imagine this will be another heated match. |

Coastal Carolina as a 4-seed is so interesting but I have always felt that the east was stronger than the west in the Sun Belt. Also Towson not being at least a top two seed is rare, and those matches against Delaware were almost two months ago so who knows which direction that goes tomorrow. The question is, can Cornell do it again??? We also have (#1) Western Kentucky vs (#8) FIU. Both matches they played in Miami went to five, would be wild if FIU can pull it off a third time. |
