After watching the excellent EP:60 special on last year’s Nebraska team, it was clear that Ms. Murray has suffered great heartbreak (losing her father when she was a child) and that she wears her heart on her sleeve. She was devastated by the National title loss, more than other players might have been, and she gets hurt more by critical comments. If I were a Nebraska fan, I’d now be showering her with lots of love right about now. We’d be happy to do that if she came to Penn State (hint, hint). Ha! Couldn't agree more (except for that last bit, which I REBUKE).
This Nebraska fan is thrilled to have Harper on the Nebraska team!

no not the super derogatory comments but people can be critical of players performances lol. Would they rather the alternative be nobody watch or care about them ? It comes with the popularity can’t have one without the other Who said people can't be critical? Seems you're putting words in my mouth.
I agree it is what it is, and that they signed up for the whole deal (presumably knowingly). It just makes me sad that the hate has to be part of it. Is that so wrong?
Im not talking about you. Im talking about the players.

I know I'll catch heat with this, but for as much as Cook makes statements about developing his own recruits and such, they really haven't done well with their 2021 HS class aside from Rodriguez: Kennedi Orr was the #1 recruit and only set for about half a season and never in a 5-1. Lindsay Krause was the #2 recruit and lost her starting spot, she has never made an All American team either. Ally Batenhorst was the #3 recruit and struggled putting balls away most of her career. She was likely getting beat out this year and transferred to USC where she is having a big season. Whitney Lauenstein was another pin recruit who transferred out Ironically, his best 2021 pin hitter (by a wide margin) is Merritt Beason who transferred in as an upperclassman. An opinion based on one recruiting class over a very successful 25 year career developing players and coaches? BTW Kennedy tore her ACL before arriving at NE and never was able to fully recover. Didn’t say it represents Cook’s whole career, just this class has underwhelmed aside from Rodriguez despite quite a bit of hype.

Unfortunately, I think what Harper needs the most is a social media cleanse. I think most people need one (it helped me a lot!), but given that the last time terrible comments on the internet really got to her it resulted in a DUI and other legal charges, she needs to get off the internet. Especially with the NCAA tourney and stress coming up. Earlier in this thread there was something about an instagram user "flexing" that at least John Cook doesn't have breast cancer, so yeah, people are mean and insane online. I support her in telling people to shut the heck up, but no one's behavior has ever been changed by a post like that, so at a certain point, she has to put her mental health above an online presence. Only make the posts you need to for NIL deals, silence notifications from social media, and put a 10 min time limit per day on the apps.

Something that I've always found helpful personally is to really resist posting (sending e-mail, etc.) when I'm emotional. That time limit concept is also useful as a cooling off period. If I still think I have a valid point when the fever has cleared, I can then write it in a calm, rational way.

of course not…it’s the hundreds of trolls. right except are hundreds of fans making nasty comments about her cancer... A lot of these posts are being trolled by multiple Nebraska fans. The cancer comment is particularly beyond the pale, and I get that bigger fanbases have more trolls, but it's pretty tiresome. I don't think any other fanbase - as in, it doesn't feel like just individuals - has a significant troll presence online. But again, this is like 0.01% of all Nebraska fans.

I for one condemn such behavior.

The thing is while some people definitely take it too far and the obvious like out of pocket hate comments are bad they also need to see that like when you sign up to play for Nebraska that’s part of what comes with the millions of awesome perks you get for signing with a team with that much of a following in a growing sport. It’s a privilege and that’s a drawback. However, if they think they have it bad they should read some basketball or football ncaa fans….. That's a logical fallacy* and I'm not here for it. Just because someone has it worse, doesn't mean this isn't bad. EDIT: it's technically the Fallacy of Relative Privation in case you are curious like I was, and you can benefit from my moment of hyper-fixation

It really stood out to me in the documentary / special that Harper could NOT put down her phone and social media. Literally, her teammates and mom had to take her phone away. Sadly, I think this is common for many in her generation - social media is like a phantom limb.

I don't know a lot about the ins/outs of volleyball. Obviously, PSU outplayed Nebraska late in 3 sets and thus beat us. My first thought after the match was that was the worst i have seen Riley play as far as decision making since she came to Nebraska. My 2nd thought was that in this case, that was likely due to coaching and the match game plan. I didn't understand the Krause sub as I thought we were still in position to win the match going into set 4. That sub seemed to be an overreaction to me due to the set 3 loss. Krause getting more attempts in set 4 than AJ had in 4 sets was an interesting stat. Ater I thought about it, was proof of that overreaction sub. We couldn't get out of the rotations with Krause in the front row and kept setting her. Krause tips/rolls a lot more than Landfair on imperfect sets, and Riley was struggling. PSU adjusted after the break, Nebraska was slow to adjust and chasing all night (well except for set 2). To me that was the difference, PSU coaches were 1 to 2 steps in front of Nebraska the entire night.

If Nebraska wins this match, will the B1G give the conference trophy to Nebraska in PSU’s third-world locker room for visiting teams like it did last year at Iowa City? i guess we'll never know.

Just because someone has it worse, doesn't mean this isn't bad. critiquing players performance isn’t a bad thing. Volleyball fans are quite sensitive to that usually, unfortunately for those people there will never be a big time college or pro sport in the United States that doesn’t have criticism of players. Ever. Also, I think amplifying the voices of very few anonymous troll accounts who take it too far is just pointless and a waste of time. People are giving them EXACTLY what they want by feeding into that
