i can't believe someone made an entire thread to discuss a coaching decision that wasn't made in the final 5-7 points of a match.

I’m honestly more confused with his decision to put her in to begin with. Taylor wasn’t playing well…but was still hitting positive and Merritt wasn’t. Linda played on the right for two years, and had our best serve. I understand keeping your leadership in, but it would have made more sense in my book to put her in for Merritt if you insist on playing her. Clearly, playing her at all wasn’t a good call

To me, it’s obvious some players can make mistakes over and over with their long leashes, but others cannot. Landfair has a short leash, Beason has a long leash. I think Beason has went backwards this season. I think Krause has went backwards this season. I think Bergen has went backwards this season. Luckily players like Jackson, Murray, Allick, and Rodriguez have all stepped up their games to counter for the others.

I have a more practical possible answer for "why...?".
Late in the fourth set, I noticed Jackson go back to serve, instead of Orr. That implies to me that Nebraska was getting close to running out of subs on the sub count for the set. Regularly subbing in Mauck and Choboy and Orr to serve means if you get into a closer "sideout" set, you're going to run up against the sub count limit. Subbing out Krause at some point is one more against the count, getting you closer to the limit, and closer to when you have to go to "plan B" of having Beason play six rotation, etc etc.

My favorite is when someone makes a post and no one has any idea what match they are watching because it’s just “that ball was in!” It’s also fascinating when people just copy and paste their (or other people’s?) volleytalk commentary onto Facebook. |
