I'd love to go to Hawaii, in fact my hubby and I were planning on going this year for the NCAA champs, but then he surprised me with a new ring to make up for my old engagement ring that the diamond fell out about 10 years ago. We've been married for 15 years so this was a nice surprise, but he said that my Hawaii trip was now on my finger I understand about the players, that is probably why I stick up for some of the Lewis players, I know them personally and they are great guys. I'm beginning to go watch a few smaller schools here and there for scouting purposes and there is a pretty good difference in the playing, but it's all still fun. There are a few players that I wouldn't want around my own kids, but then there some good ones too. I've benn watching the Calumet College team in Whiting Ind. They have a few decent kids there. It's hard with 3 young kids at home to make it out to the games. I'm sure all the parents out there know what I"m talking about.

Aloha Volleyball Mom
Here are a couple of my Favorite "Local Kine Grinds" (that's Good Local Place to eat).
Breakfast - Big City Diner in Kaimuki. Just up the street from the University. Try their Fried Rice Plate for breakfast - its huge. Lotsa Carbs.
Lunch - Rainbow Drive In in Kapahuluu (5 mins from the University) - Try their famous mix plate (teri beef, mahimahi and shoyu chicken with extra macaroni).
Dinner (pre game meal) - Stan Sheriff Center, University of Hawaii. 32 0z. Heineken on Tap and Garlic Fries, and watch the teams warm up.
Dinner (after game meal) - Side Street Cafe. University of Hawaii setters (Daniel Rasay and Kimo Tuyay) are always there sucking on a Jack and Coke. They also take Beckwith with them, of course, he can't drink - yeah right. Hole in the wall, but all of Hawaii's Best Chefs go there to eat after work. Try their 'pork chops' they are Ono (that's good). As you eat, they will replay the Hawaii/UCLA Volleyball game on TV. It may be hard to eat your meal and watch your Bruins get whip on TV at the same time. Food is serve Pupu Style. Tell them your good friends with Kimo Tuyay, their number one customer, it you're lucky you might get a free round of drinks. It always works for us.
Nitecap - Aarons on Top of the Ala Moana Hotel. Go to the bar as ask for Mr. Magic (big volleyball fan) he'll show you some unbelieveable tricks at the Bar, while you sip on a Cosmopolitan contemplating why your Bruins lost that tonite.
Have Fun. Bookumdanoaloha

Took a break from volleyball and watched the UH Wahine Softball Team play in Poway, Ca at a Womens softball Tournament. Being a good Hawaii Booster. I treated the Wahines with 6 large pizzas and pitchers of soda, and of course my wife's Chocolate Haupia Cake. Hawaii went 1-2 for tournament. Can't wait for the Big Game on thursday and friday. Make sure to bring your homemade yellow cards and red cards to the game.
We always seem to use them when Uncle Al's in town.

Sounds a little antisocial to me. Are they the basis of the famous Stan Sheriff Center atmosphere that everyone talks about...?

the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Feb/24/sp/sp05a.htmlPosted on: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 UCLA is back with NCAA title hopes By Stephen Tsai Advertiser Staff Writer Once again, there is a spring in the step of the UCLA men's volleyball players. It is a lightness that has more to do with the Bruins' return to glory — 12-2 record and No. 2 national ranking — after a two-year slump than the new spring-cushioned wooden floor in their renovated practice gym. "We were not a very good team last year," said Al Scates, referring to his first Bruin team not to qualify for the postseason in his 42 seasons as head coach in Westwood. "That was probably the weakest team we've ever had. That's not the case this year." The Bruins have rebounded with a new setter (Dennis Gonzalez), a new go-to hitter (freshman opposite Steve Klosterman) and renewed confidence. Under Scates, it seems, the Bruins have been identified for their Trump-like mix of success and arrogance. Scates has won 20 national titles, including 18 NCAA championships since 1970 and five in the past 11 years. While other coaches write their goals in the sky, Scates shoots for the stars. "Our goal," he said, "is to win a national championship." Along the way, UCLA has been a thorn to the Hawai'i volleyball team's rosy aspirations. The Bruins defeated the Warriors in the 1995 NCAA West Regional and in the 1996 NCAA championship match. After winning six of the first eight UH-hosted Outrigger Invitational tournaments, the Bruins were not invited to the past two. "I guess we won too many of those," Scates said. "That wasn't the issue," UH coach Mike Wilton said, noting the top-ranked Warriors play UCLA twice during the regular season. The teams meet Thursday and Saturday in the Stan Sheriff Center in a series that has been emotionally charged in recent years. After the Warriors won in Pauley Pavilion in 2001, UH outside hitter Costas Theocharidis danced on the scorer's table, infuriating the Bruins. Following UH's victory in the last meeting in Honolulu two years ago, Scates told the Daily Bruin student newspaper: "We could have beaten them with a full squad, but we didn't have that." At the time, Wilton responded: "If wishes were candy and nuts, we'd all have a great Christmas. Who cares? Whatever." Yesterday, Scates said: "You know what, anything that happened, I don't even remember. ... I really haven't thought about it." But Scates acknowledged that the Bruins consider the Warriors to be a "rival." "Anybody who's good is a rival," he said. "Our rivals have changed through the years. There have been different ones in different eras. Whoever is the best is our rival. In the old days, it was Santa Barbara. It just depends on what year you want to talk about." In turn, Wilton said: "They're a rival, but we have lots of rivals. Next week, it'll be Northridge and then it'll be USC. ... (The Bruins) are a good team and they have a marvelous history. They've had two down years in a row, so I'm sure they're ready to do a job." Reach Stephen Tsai at 525-8051 or stsai@honoluluadvertiser.com

Can't wait for tomorrows big game. I have a feeling this is going to open UH's eyes. Let's look at team Stats in the MPFS: Hitting Pct. #1 UCLA, #4 Hawaii; Kills #2 UCLA, #4 Hawaii; Blocking #4 Hawaii, #6 UCLA; Aces #1 Hawaii, #5 UCLA; Digs #2 UCLA, #10 Hawaii; Assists #3 UCLA, #7 Hawaii.
Hawaii leads in Blocking and Aces. Translate to Hawaii has to serve tough and in. Block all night cause Hawaii is really lacking in digs.
UCLA is high in Hitting % and kills, how will the Hawaii block handle that?
Emotion and momentum will be key for Hawaii to win big. However it is a double edge sword.
Stat's wise UCLA has the edge.
Let the games begin...

the emotion in this matchup could be the key for hawaii because it always is emotional with UCLA. some bruin teams have not had as much as hawaii, and while it helps sometimes, it can also hurt you. hopefully everyone will come out to support them team. if there are a lot of people, the stanley will be really loud. we'll see what happens.
