But of course, you are begging the issue. Hawaii's record is intact. It's not like making the playoffs. That is, you do not throw out previous records. No its like Hawai was at one time arguably the best program in the country. Now, they are one of several very high level programs fighting each year to win national championships. With Stanford outpacing being the most consistantly successful over the past 10-15 years. Can you believe that back in Hawaii's tenure as the top program people used to call Don Shaw the coach that couldn't win the big one? A decade later he managed to win something like 4 national championships. You just never know what's going to happen with a particular program over the long haul.

I don't think anyone is living on past glory or anything like that. Sure Hawaii hasn't won the title since 1987, but they have been to numerous final fours since then, including the recent streak of 3 appearances in 4 years. They've been to the sweet sixteen every year since 1998, something that cannot be said for USC, UCLA, Stanford, Florida, Penn State, or Long Beach, I think only Nebraska might have a longer streak. Pete points out strong facts that put Hawaii up there still, despite not winning the title for so long. A fact often overlooked is that losing the title match means you are the second best team, or you nearly won the title. As pointed out by Pete, Hawaii recently almost won 3 more titles, having made the final 4 3 times in four years. I hate it when I have to sound like I am tooting my horn for Hawaii. But there are those out there who don't know the facts, and those who know but try to massage them for their benefit. As I said, at this point in the season, the attention should be to the 4 finalists. Discussion should be on them, not on Hawaii.

I am happy that Hawaii once was THE program, but I am also very happy to see other schools evolve into powerhouses. Santa Clara, Tennessee, Missouri- who would have given them a chance at the outset. The whole country is now slowly beginning to wake up on Volleyball.

Now if you could only wake up the NCAA committee.
Could you give them all a personal call tonight?

Do you like debating with yourself? I didn't know you threw in the towel. I didn't hear you cry out "uncle." Let's stop this stupid discussion and mutually agree on what pete said earlier: "I would love to see a different team win the title this year like a Washington, or even Santa Clara, it would be nice for someone other than a USC, Stanford, Nebraska to win the title for once." Ok?

at least not the latter group, the former perhaps since I am no expert or volleyball historian.
For your info, as well as gorf's, In another thread about a month ago, I said if Hawaii doesn't make the palyoffs, I will be rooting for Minnesota. Well that team is not in, so I'll root for Santa Clara, Washington then tennesse. Just to get another school to win the title.
I do not intend to be a cracker like yo.
