So what are people thoughts on the Big 12 for 2006. Can Texas challenge Nebraska for the top spot? Will Missouri rebound without Hunter running the show? How does the rest of the field look? Lots of impact players for each team graduating this year except Texas.
Nebraska - Elmer and Saleamua Missouri - Hunter, Danru and Boyd K-State - Rezende Colorado - Griffin Kansas - Lima, Caten and Rozum Iowa State - Craig A&M - Jones, Kari Kelley

If Texas ever wants to do anything in the Big 12 or NCAA tournament, next there will be as good a chance as they've ever had since their glory days with Mick. Nebraska will have their hands full with Texas.
But
I fully believe in Tracy Stalls, coming back next year, with a full off-season of training, and being one of the best MB's in the country. Lee Maes will also have to earn his paycheck on the defensive side with the loss of Saleaumua. I still like Nebraska. The captains, (which I think will be Houghtelling, Pavan, and Busboom), along with Larson, who will have a year under her belt, will lead Nebraska to another Big 12 title.

Look for Busboom to become the libero, and if Nebraska gets Hodge, look out.

and if Nebraska gets Hodge, look out. I think that applies to Texas too and a few other schools that are on her short list!

Maybe she's a procrastinator who can't make up her mind? Sometimes that's not a good sign, especially for an athlete in a sport that requires split-second timing and decision making.

Missouri will be hurting from a leadership standpoint. Also they were skimpy in the middle this year having just Wilson and Boyd. Their other two middles were both walking wounded. Hantouli IMO is not the same caliber of Boyd or Wilson and will not be. The backup setter is the chinese girl(I know which one?)---her leadership in running a team will be crucial.
For the Huskers I predict the Busboom will be libero and that depending on the depth at outside hitter that perhaps the 6-2 might remain otherwise back to the 5-1 with Griffin and Holloway battling like mad.
No one is talking about what Iowa State might do given Christy Johnson's success and now a chance to recruit.

Why is Hodge waiting so long to decide?? It is a little odd. Usually, I think, when a player delays in committing, it's because they're waiting to hear from Stanford. From what I've read on this board though, she's already ruled Stanford out.

I have heard as well that Stanford is out of the running. Her parents wanted her to go to Stanford but she wasn't feeling it.
As for the Big 12, Nebraska probably on top, but you are right about them having their hands full with Texas. All starters returning and adding Engle to the RS. Wow. Engle is tough guys. More of a RS than setter. May take the reigns in the future, but watch out, I'm telling ya.

Does it means that Jen Christian will lose her starting job cos Acevedo and Paolini will probably take the outside spots and Engel at the opp?

Christian will probably keep her spot because she is a better blocker, server and defensive player. Elliot seems to like her in the starting line up but you might see a Dani Mancuso/Christina Houghtelling (04) situation where he goes with the hot hand. I really hope Engle can pass to take some of the pressure off of Jennings, Acevedo, and especially Hall.

Well, believe it or not, Stanford isn't for everyone...especially those without strong academic records. No reason to struggle academically for four or more years when one can get a good education elsewhere without competing with the perfect SAT kids that are pervasive at Stanford.
