Well, this is the match most of us thought we would see. Clearly the two best teams in the country. I am also certain that the next two best teams were not in San Antonio. Tennessee and Santa Clara have alot to be proud of, they made great runs, but they were way out of place out there. The scores were lopsided and the matches weren't as lopsided as the score indicate, they were worse.
I hadn't seen much of UW this year, they are very, very good. I think they serve and pass really well. They are certainly more polished than NU, but I think NU is much more physical. Nebraska will have to pass the tough jump floaters, and UW will have to do a much better job, defending attack behind the setter, if Tenn, middle killed them on the slide, Pavan and Houghtelling may be more than a handful. I think I would give the edge to Nebraska, as impressive as UW hitting .330 was, Nebraska hit .450. As much as I would like to see Nebraska win, I want to see a great match.

Then who were the next two best teams? I think it's clear after Nebraska and Washington there was a HUGE dropoff and all the teams were equally inconsistent.

I would agree with the consistency argument. As far as talent goes, with Tenn and SC in the final 4 it is obvious that a large amount of parity now exists in volleyball. However, Washington and Nebraska have been the most consistent and that is why they are still alive.
Until the string of injuries for Stanford, they have to be the next best with Penn St.
I think the championship matchup is going to be great. I can't wait for the finals. Candace Lee is an incredible libero. I wouldn't be surprised to see Washington go after Larson. I think she can be rattled. I don't think the game will go 5, however, that would be awesome to see. I just don't see Nebraska losing, I think this is their year. But I can't pick for certain...it is just too even.

For the second consecutive year, the NCAA tournament committee seeds a honked-up 64-team field and puts together one hell of a crappy tournament.
The result? A Final Four that is a bigtime yawner.

hahna, c'mon I think we(all volleytalkees) have spent so much time speculating on this match. What more is there actually to talk about or analyze???!

A healthy PSU and Stanford would have made for one of the all time best FF's.

I have been saying it all year and I am not going to change my mantra now. Washington, but not sure how many games it will take. They play better defense than Nebraska, and unless Nebraska can block them all night long which I don't think they can do, once you get past their block they are vulnerable, very vulnerable. They haven't played anyone as skilled, composed, experienced, and good as Washington. Plus from what I saw last night Washington has ladies you can hit just as hard as Nebraska. I think they serve and pass better however, and their libero is better than anything that Nebraska can stick in the back row.....Washington, from start to finish! Cook will be back in this match again next year, I seriously doubt that Washington will have the horses to get to the final four next year....they will want it more too! One last thing:;;;;;;;I am just thrilled that last night's attendance was not equal to what we had last year in Long Beach(and they had Nebraska and we didn't) and they had to be worth a couple thousand extra this weekend!

Well it appears that Washington is better in every area of the game than Nebraska. Congratulations to Washington on winning the 2005 title. I hope Nebraska can get into double digits in scoring.

Huskies definitely have the edge defensively and in setting. But Huskers block better and have more offensive options. This will, I hope, be a great match. I was leaning toward the Huskers, but now I'm not so sure. They will have to pass and dig -- not as well as UW, but they'll need to raise the bar.

I don't know how you could give the edge to Washington. Their middles are not nearly as athletic as Elmer or Stalls. They don't have the same offensive firepower as Nebraska (if Collymore couldn't handle Pavan, Washington's outsides certainly won't). Florida was a much bigger, and much more athletic team than Washington (although don't pass nearly as well).
I could have my head in the clouds, but Washington will be going home without any hardware, and this could be quick work by the 'skers. My prediction: HUSKERS IN 4!!
...here it comes

Difference in this match is going to be the play of the middles. Nebraska has the edge in this position. Was middles thru the whole tournament have not shown me that they can hang with the Nebraska Buildings. On the other hand if Nebraska can pass a little bit better and stay in system the crown should be theirs. Now Wash SERVING IS VERY TOUGH and do pass the ball very well. I say Nebraska in five.
