I'll give you one: Paula Gentil. Most definitely! Do liberos make the list now or are they still under-appreciated?

I thought international players are not included on the Fab 50 list. Although I see Pavan on the 2004.

Paula had already been living in Florida for a while before she was recruited by the Gophers so I don't think she would have been considered an international player. She was just wasn't on the radar of the folks that create the lists.

And how did she, as an international player, be considered as the top recruit for the class? Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful that she had that high a profile and for the most part, has lived up to the hype. Just waiting for the NCAA championship.

Gorf, who are you talking about? Paula or Pavan? Brybry's post was about Pavan. I think that Pavan was well known to college recruiters. Certainly it's easier to for a Canadian to secure a US student visa than for most nationalities. Many international recruits (esp Europeans or South Americans) are known to a handful of college recruiters who keep quiet about such recruits. There were plenty who knew who Pavan was and were able to provide assessments for a player ranking list.

Just wanted to clarify PrepVB's role in the Fab 50. We (me, working with college coaches) prepared the Fab 50 for volleyball magazine in 2004, but were not involved with the two other Fab 50 lists noted here (Ruffda, you'll be happy to know that Paula Gentil was a Student Sports HS All-American her senior year at Lake Highland. She may have been an under the radar recruit but was a high profile HS attacker deserving of her All-America recognition).
As for Pavan, we went back and forth on her. We chose to include her because she was the undisputed No. 1 in the class and was known to enough college coaches (through her play in the US with her club team and playing for Team Canada) that they could appropriately assess her impact in college.
