Schunzel did about all he could to put Ball State on his back last night, but if your passers SUCK there's not much you can do. I like him over Barreto for POY because he's just a better vball player, period.
BSU last night was AWFUL. Horrible passing, scared hitting, bad defense, and soft serving. Talk about playing like a bunch of 4th graders. Would love it if their coach would chew them out, but I know THAT won't happen...

Well the point I was trying to make, is Lewis may have been great last year, Fab may have been great last year. But this year I think they are not very good. I just thing BSU was worse that night. I was not there or anything but from what I am hearing BSU sucked more then Lewis rocked. RedYukon, from seeing Lewis once this year, and hearing enough about them first hand, they do ride him alot, but against BSU it really seems Escalante went off more then Fab did. I like Fab, I have met him and he is a good guy. But fact of the matter Red is I did research all his numbers, and this year they are all lackluster. I wish Martins was able to play this year in my opinion he was the best setter in the country last year, well maybe he just had the best hands. His hands were amazing clean, and accurate, maybe not the best overall volleyball player, but I thought the best hands. Lewis isn't the team they once where, neither is Fab the player he was when he was being set by Martins and was complementing Gustavo. POY in the MIVA is premature until he even gets POW. I think that the road to the Final Four goes thru Indiana this year, prolly thru FW maybe thru BS.

Gotta know: What's the deal with Soler's little 'X' gesture after a kill? He looks like a real dork when he does that.

Soler's little 'X' gesture symbolizes that he got a tool off the block. He did it at the Final Four a few times too. I found that out through someone that plays for Lewis.
Yeah, he looks like a dork when he does it.... ;D

When I talked about Matt and Keith, I was actually thinking about MIVA POY. Fab could get the player of the week for this week, we'll see. I still think Matt and Keith barring a major injury are at this point the two most likely canidates but I also like Mike from Loyola.
Has there ever been a POY outside of the MPSF? It doesn't seem like we ever get much CONSIDERATION! Seems like someone from Lewis would have gotten it last year if they were really serious about giving to someone outside the MPSF.

I think BSU Keith did after they beat PSU in three early this year, I may be wrong, but I think so...

Wasn't that player of the week? I'm think that I'm thinking more of the end of the year honor that is handed out. Like what Costas got last year. Am I thinking of the right thing?

The last one I can think of Ivan Contreras from Penn State in 1997. He was an incredible player. I think in 2000 Rene Esteves from Ohio State also deserved some consideration for it, but he was competing against Taliaferro from UCLA and Suxho from USC (who I feel deserving won that award). But aside from Contreras, I think the POY has come from the MPSF. And I would have to disagree about someone from Lewis getting the award. You still had Keenan and Costas around, and I don't think the committee would deny both of them POY again.

Ramon Hernandez wasn't POY, but he was the MVP of the NCAAs that year when Penn St. upset UCLA in 1994. In 1995, I thought Todd Reimer could have been considered, had he not had the misfortune of playing during the Nygaard era. I am glad the voting members saw fit to give Contreras the award in 1997, as he was by far the best player in the country - way more consistent all year than the other hopefuls like Lambert from Stanford. I still cannot believe he won MVP of the tournament. Stewart Chong and Matt Fuerbringer carried Stanford to that title, not Lambert. But when you're a returning ex-Olympian (albeit a 9th place out of 12 teams Olympian), the college game has to give you some kind of recognition to keep you from looking like a total dork.

Anyone who DOESN'T think Matty is at least MIVA POY is kidding themselves. Look at his numbers. Look at the team record. You can debate all you want about how there are better players in the MIVA but NOONE is having a better YEAR..... RedYukon, I doubt Fabiano gets POY consideration. I don't care about his numbers, from what I know about the MIVA this years top candidates for POY should be Matt from FW and Keith from BS, anyone familiar with the MIVA tell me if I am wrong.

Keith Schunzle’s running the show for Ball St. - Look at his numbers. Look at his team’s record. IPFW still has to play six conference matches that include Loyola, Ohio St., and Ball St all on the road. It’s still way to early to pick a clear cut POY, and it will come down to politics anyway…..it always does.

Red I know you like Fabi, but your putting him forward as a POY candidate based on what he did last year not this year.
He had a good night against Ball St..... for the first time this season against any kind of opponent. I'm not trying to be a jag of or anything, but his numbers may not get him first team MIVA let alone POY unless he really picks it up down the stretch.

VBbeast Fabi isn't having as great of a year as last year but I sure read his name a lot in every article about his team. I don't know why you were talking about last year, I wasn't.

Red, I think at some point you'll have to drop this. I appreciate everyones input on the matter, and it seems Matt from FW is a consensus lock, with a lot of respect out their for Keith from BS and Mike from Loy. I like Fab, but clearly not as much as you do.
