We won't be wishing away her senior year quite so quickly. First game is tonight. It'll be over before we blink. She has a ways to go before the Big Ten anyway.

I haven't heard a rumor about anyone leaving. Mary and Kevin are about to switch places as assistant and voluteer assistant. Maybe that is the source of the rumor.
How about Vicki Brown? Hitting .462 through six games! Can she keep that up in the Big Ten?
They'll have some good competition this weekend.

EEOC requires that all positions be posted for a number of weeks, even if it is there is already someone who will fill the position. Like Revbang said, that might be where it all came from. There is a posting on the NCAA website for an assistant at Illinois, closing date is September 26.

Women's volleyball team starts off winning season Superior play advances team to 6-0 start; Vicki Brown continues great performance
By: Lucas Deal Issue date: 9/5/06 Section: Sports
The Illinois volleyball team swept its second consecutive tournament over the weekend, beating Ole Miss, Marquette and Loyola-Chicago at the Marquette Kick-Off Tourney in Milwaukee.
In addition to the sweep, Vicki Brown was named Tournament MVP for the second time in as many weeks as she continues her fantastic early season play. Kayani Turner and Ashley Edinger joined Brown on the All-Tournament team for the second straight week while Lizzie Bazzetta made her first All-Tourney team of 2006.
"It's great for us just to play well and win the tournament, but for us to also have four players - including our setter and our libero - make the All-Tourney team is really a credit to our team and how they played," said Illini head coach Don Hardin after the weekend.
The Illini opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Ole Miss on Friday afternoon and continued their hot start with a 3-0 win over host Marquette on Saturday and a 3-1 win over Loyola on Sunday.
Hardin said he was very happy with the way his team played defensively throughout the weekend and said he felt that was a main reason for their success.
"Our defense was much more disciplined than it was last weekend (in the State Farm Illini Classic) at Huff Hall," he said. "Loyola is a very good defensive team and they've used their defense and patience to beat us in the past. This weekend we played with them and, defensively, we had more digs than they did."
Offensively, the Illini posted similar numbers to last week. Brown's 43 kills were only two less than her performance in the Illini Classic while Kayani Turner's 47 kills were three more than she had last week.
The biggest improvement Hardin saw was that of his newcomers, including outside hitter Amy Palash. Hardin said Palash played well offensively and defensively and he was impressed by how she handled the pressure of her position.
Hardin was also happy with how his team handled its serving, noting they have improved since last week but still need some work. Illinois has 61 service aces this season compared to only 20 by its opponents.
This is the second consecutive season in which the Illini have opened the season 6-0. Last year, the team's first loss was a 3-0 defeat to No. 9-ranked Louisville in Las Vegas. The Illini have not opened a season with seven straight wins since they went 8-0 to open the 1997 season.
The Illini will play North Carolina, Wichita State and the College of Charleston in the Glaxo Smith Kline UNC Volleyball Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., next weekend.

Brown's hitting has been outstanding so far this season, especially on the slide. She's taken a decent amount of swings, which makes her hitting percentage more impressive. I think she still has a lot of potential and will get even better. The team is serving well and defense is solid, but Brown (and the team) need to step up on blocking to compete in the Big Ten. The next four matches should give Illinois a better idea of how competitive they will be and will be a good build-up for the Big Ten season. College of Charleston, Witchita State, and Dayton were all getting votes. I'll be curious to see how the Boilermakers play Dayton tomorrow - Illinois plays them next week.

I stayed at a hotel in Dayton once. Saw a movie at a theater in a local indoor mall. Can't really remember much other than what I stated in the first two sentences of this post.

Seems as if Dayton is playing EVERYONE this year. They play IU this weekend - along with LSU and Wake Forest. Those teams are no Chicago State, like IU played last weekend. Uh oh.

palo: Wichita State plays Illinois at 9AM (CST) tomorrow. The Illini are undefeated so far this year. WSU lost 3-0 at Kansas State (30-21, 30-28 and 32-30) after leading in all three games (as I predicted on another board because WSU is very young). I also predicted UI would beat WSU (but I hope I'm wrong) because of its youth. Anyway after going 6-0, how is the Illinois team looking? (BTW: WSU is playing College of Charleston right now and WSU leads 2-1 (30-19, 30-15, 27-30). Stephanie Tokarz apparently is playing very well. College of Charleston's only loss so far is to Cal State Fullerton, I believe.)
WSU over College of Charleston (30-19, 30-15, 27-30, 30-18). WSU-UIUC Saturday
Sorry not to hear about UI. Great Match. WSU over UI 16-30, 25-30, 30-21, 30-28 and 15-13. WSU-UNC Saturday evening
